What it means
F01040 is raised when a parameter has been changed whose new value only takes effect once the parameter setting has been saved (backed up) and the drive has been rebooted. The cause is the changed parameter setting itself, not a defective component: the drive is telling you the commissioning step is still open — save the parameters and carry out a POWER ON. While the fault is active the drive coasts down and will not start again until that has been done. The G120C and G115D manuals list the code briefly as Parameters must be saved
.
Why it appears
- A parameter was changed, which makes it necessary to save the parameters and reboot the drive (on G120 and G120XA: the parameters must be backed up and the Control Unit switched OFF and ON again).
- The list manuals name these changes as examples: p1810.2 (wobulation of the pulse frequency) and p1802 (edge modulation), and p1750.5 (closed-loop control mode PMSM and RESM up to f=0 Hz with HF signal injection).
- PMSM: permanent-magnet synchronous motor. RESM: reluctance synchronous motor (synchronous reluctance motor).
What to check
- Save the parameters: p0971 (save drive object parameters); the list manuals additionally name p0977 (save all parameters), while the G120 and G120XA instructions name p0971 alone.
- Carry out a POWER ON, i.e. switch off and on again: the list manuals say
for all components
, with the Control Unit switched on with or after the power units; the G120 and G120XA manuals say the Control Unit, the G120C manual the converter, the G115D manual the CU. - Then upload the drive unit with the commissioning tool (the G130/G150 manuals write commissioning software).
- If only p1750.5 or p1810.2 was changed for edge modulation, a warm restart is sufficient instead: p0009 = 30, p0976 = 3.
Parameters the manual names
- p0971 — save drive object parameters: the save command you run before switching off.
- p0977 — save all parameters: named by the list manuals alongside p0971 for the same save.
- p0009 — device commissioning parameter filter: set to 30 for the warm restart that is sufficient after a change to p1750.5 or p1810.2.
- p0976 — reset and load all parameters: set to 3 for the same warm restart.
- p1810 — modulator configuration: a change of p1810.2 (wobulation of the pulse frequency) is one of the printed examples that raises this fault.
- p1802 — the parameter chapter calls it the manipulated variable filter denominator natural frequency; the fault cause names it under edge modulation together with p1810.2.
- p1750 — motor model configuration: a change of p1750.5 is the second printed example.
Acknowledging and restarting
There is no separate acknowledgment step: the fault clears when the parameters have been saved and the POWER ON has been carried out as described above. After switching on, upload the drive unit with the commissioning tool. For a change to p1750.5 or p1810.2 for edge modulation, the warm restart with p0009 = 30 and p0976 = 3 is sufficient.

Questions technicians ask
How do I clear fault F01040 on a SINAMICS drive?
Save the parameter setting with p0971 (the list manuals also name p0977) and then switch the power off and on again. Once the drive is up, upload the drive unit with the commissioning tool.
What does F01040 mean?
That a parameter was changed which requires the parameters to be saved and the drive to be rebooted. The manuals give changes to p1810.2, p1802 and p1750.5 as examples.
Can F01040 be reset without switching the drive off?
Only in one case: if p1750.5 or p1810.2 was changed for edge modulation, the list manuals say a warm restart with p0009 = 30 and p0976 = 3 is sufficient.
Which parameter saves the settings for F01040?
p0971 saves the drive object parameters; p0977 saves all parameters and is named in the list manuals alongside it. The G120 and G120XA instructions name only p0971.
