F01042Parameter error during project download

What it means

F01042 is issued when the drive detects a parameter error while a project is being downloaded with the commissioning software — typically a parameter value that is not permitted. Because many parameter limits depend on other parameters, a value that looks valid on its own can still be rejected. The fault value stored in r0949 names the affected parameter, its index and the exact cause, so the failed download can be corrected where it actually went wrong.

Why it appears

  • An error was detected while the commissioning software was downloading the project, for example an incorrect parameter value.
  • The limits of the parameter named in the fault value may depend on other parameters, so the range the drive accepts is not fixed; on G120 and G120XA the manuals express this as dynamic limits being exceeded for the specified parameter.

What to check

  1. Read the fault value in r0949 and interpret it in hexadecimal to identify the parameter, the index and the cause (see below).
  2. Enter the correct value in the specified parameter; where a limit was exceeded, identify the parameter that restricts the limits of the specified parameter.
  3. Correct the parameterization in the commissioning tool and download the project again.

Reading the message value

The drive writes the fault value to r0949; interpret it as hexadecimal ccbbaaaa: the lowest four hex digits (aaaa) are the parameter number, the next byte (bb) the index, and the top byte (cc) the fault cause. The manuals decode the cause byte; the causes that steer the correction are:

  • 0–25 — basic parameter errors: 0 illegal parameter number, 1 value cannot be changed, 2 lower or upper value limit exceeded, 5 data type incorrect, 20 and 104 illegal value, 25 drive object does not exist, among others.
  • 107–133 — write-access restrictions: 107 no write access while the controller is enabled; 109–118 and 120–127 write access only in a specific commissioning state set with p0010 or p0009; 119 and 129 the parameter may not be written in download; 130 master-control transfer inhibited via p0806; 132 free BICO interconnection inhibited via p0922.
  • 200–204 — 200 below and 201 above the valid values, 202 and 203 no access from the Basic Operator Panel (BOP), 204 write access not permitted.

For G120 and G120XA the manuals decode only causes 0–24 and 108 and mark further values as reserved for internal Siemens troubleshooting.

Parameters the manual names

  • r0949 — fault value: read it here, interpreted in hexadecimal, to get the parameter, index and fault cause for this fault.
  • p0010 — drive commissioning parameter filter: causes 109–118 mean the parameter can only be written in one particular state of this filter, for example 1 quick commissioning, 3 motor, 4 encoder, 29 download or 95 Safety Integrated commissioning.
  • p0009 — device commissioning parameter filter: causes 120–127 demand a specific device state of this filter, for example 1 device configuration, 2 define drive type, 3 drive basic configuration or 4 data set basic configuration.
  • p0806 — BI: inhibit master control: cause 130 means the transfer of the master control is inhibited through this binector input.
  • p0922 — IF1 PZD telegram selection: cause 132 means a free BICO interconnection is inhibited via this parameter.

Acknowledging and restarting

Correct the parameterization, download the project again and acknowledge the fault immediately; the manuals describe no further reset or restart steps for this code.

Questions technicians ask

What does fault F01042 mean on a SINAMICS drive?

The drive found a parameter error while a project was being downloaded with the commissioning software — for example a parameter value that is not permitted.

How do I find the parameter that caused F01042?

Read the fault value in r0949 as hexadecimal ccbbaaaa: the last four hex digits are the parameter number, the next byte the index, and the top byte the fault cause.

How is F01042 cleared?

Enter the correct value in the parameter named by the fault value (or the parameter that restricts its limits), download the project again and acknowledge the fault immediately.

Why does the drive refuse a parameter during download?

Many causes are write-access restrictions: the parameter can only be written in a particular commissioning state set with p0010 or p0009, or it may not be written during a download at all.
