F01043 — Fatal error at project download

F01043 means the drive detected a fatal error while a project was being downloaded to it from the commissioning software. The cause is reported as a number: the message value shows Fault cause: %1, and the drive stores the same number in r0949, to be interpreted as a decimal value. The manuals for S120, S150, G130, G150, G120 and G120XA describe this fault almost identically, with small differences in the cause list, decoded below.

• A fatal error was detected when downloading a project using the commissioning software.
• Which step of the download failed is stated by the numbered fault value in r0949. The families list slightly different numbers: S120/S150 additionally refuse the download when know-how protection blocks it (23, 25) or during a partial power up after inserting a component (24); G120/G120XA additionally report a canceled download (100).

1. Use the current version of the commissioning software.
2. Compare the offline project with what is actually at the drive — for example the number of drive objects, the motor, the encoder and the power unit — modify the project and carry out a new download.
3. Change the drive state if required: is a drive rotating, or is there a message or signal present?
4. Observe any other active messages/signals and remove their cause, for example by correcting incorrectly set parameters.
5. After fault value 17, check the component wiring, taking the various messages/signals into account.
6. After fault value 18, restore the factory settings of the drive unit before attempting the download again.
7. On S120/S150, calculate the control parameters automatically with p0340 and then set p0010 = 0; if know-how protection was not activated on all drive objects, restore the factory setting before the new download.
8. Boot the drive from the previously saved files — switch it off and on, or use p0976 (S120/S150 and G130/G150) or p0970 (G120/G120XA).

• 1, 14, 15, 16: the device or drive status cannot be changed to the required state — device download (is a drive object still ON?), drive download, or "ready for operation" (for 14 the manual refers to r0947 and r0949).
• 2, 5, 13: incorrect drive object number, deletion of a drive object that does not exist, or an unknown drive object type.
• 3, 4, 6, 7: a drive object is deleted although already deleted or already registered for generation, or generated or regenerated although it already exists or is already registered for generation.
• 8: the maximum number of drive objects that can be generated is exceeded.
• 9, 11, 12: error while generating a drive object — device drive object, global component or drive component.
• 10: error while generating the target topology parameters p9902 and p9903.
• 17: the topology cannot be downloaded; the component wiring should be checked, taking the various messages/signals into account.
• 18: a new download is only possible if the factory settings are restored for the drive unit.
• 19: the slot for the option module has been configured several times, for example CAN and COMM BOARD.
• 20: the configuration is inconsistent, for example CAN configured for the Control Unit but not for the corresponding drive objects.
• 21: error when accepting the download parameters.
• 22: software-internal download error.
• 23, 24, 25 (S120/S150): download not possible while know-how protection is activated; download during a partial power up after inserting a component; inconsistent configuration because know-how protection is not or only partially activated.
• 100 (G120/G120XA): the download was canceled because no write requests were received from the commissioning client, for example due to a communication error.
• Additional values are only for internal Siemens troubleshooting.

• r0949 (fault value) — read as a decimal number, it holds the numbered cause of F01043 that the list above decodes.
• p0340 (automatic parameter calculation) — starts the automatic calculation of the control parameters named in the S120/S150 remedy.
• p0010 (drive commissioning parameter filter) — set back to 0 after the automatic calculation with p0340.
• p0976 (reset and load all parameters) — boots the drive from the previously saved files as an alternative to switching it off and on (S120/S150, G130/G150).
• p0970 (reset drive parameters) — named in the G120/G120XA remedy likewise to boot from the previously saved files.

Remove the cause of the failed download first, then acknowledge the fault and repeat the download with the corrected offline project. When the fault value was 18, the factory settings of the drive unit must be restored before a new download is possible. Instead of repeating the download, the drive can also be booted from the previously saved files by switching it off and on, or with p0976 or p0970 as listed above.
