What it means
F01038 is raised by the Control Unit when an error occurs while the parameter back-up file PSxxxyyy.ACX or PTxxxyyy.ACX is being downloaded from the non-volatile memory. The manuals title the condition ACX: Loading the parameter back-up file unsuccessful
. The drive does not perform an automatic shutdown for this fault, but the fault must be acknowledged immediately. Depending on the drive's configuration, the same condition can also be signaled as an alarm; as an alarm it triggers no reaction and needs no acknowledgment.
Why it appears
- An error occurred when downloading the parameter back-up files PSxxxyyy.ACX or PTxxxyyy.ACX from the non-volatile memory of the Control Unit.
- If fault value byte 2 = 255: the drive object type is incorrect.
- If fault value byte 2 = 254: the topology comparison was unsuccessful, so the drive object type could not be identified. The manual names these possible reasons: incorrect component type in the actual topology, component does not exist in the actual topology, component not active.
What to check
- Read the fault value in r0949, interpreting it hexadecimal: byte 1 shows which back-up file or drive object is affected, byte 2 the reason.
- If you have saved the project data using the commissioning tool, download the project again.
- Save using the function "Copy RAM to ROM" or with the save parameter set to 1 — p0977 = 1 on the S120, S150, G130 and G150, p0971 = 1 on the G120 and G120XA — so that the parameter files are again written completely to the non-volatile memory.
- If byte 2 = 255, correct the drive object type (see p0107); the manual prints this step for the S120/S150 and G130/G150.
- If the fault persists, replace the memory card or the Control Unit.

- The drive stores the fault value in r0949; interpret it hexadecimal.
- Byte 1 — yyy in the file name PSxxxyyy.ACX:
- 000: consistency back-up file
- 001 ... 062: drive object number
- 099: PROFIBUS parameter back-up file
- Byte 2: 255 — incorrect drive object type; 254 — topology comparison unsuccessful, the drive object type was not able to be identified.
- Byte 4, 3 and additional values: only for internal Siemens troubleshooting.
Parameters the manual names
- r0949 — fault value: read the encoded file and reason here (hexadecimal) to select the right remedy.
- p0977 — save all parameters: set to 1 so the back-up files are again written completely to the non-volatile memory (the save step named for the S120, S150, G130 and G150).

- p0107 — drive object type: check and correct here when byte 2 = 255 (step printed for the S120, S150, G130 and G150).
Acknowledging and restarting
Acknowledge the fault immediately; the manuals describe no further reset sequence. If the drive signals this condition as an alarm instead, no acknowledgment is required.
