F07930 — Drive: Brake control error

F07930 is raised when the Control Unit detects an error while it controls or monitors the motor holding brake. The drive is stopped, and the brake operation or state that failed is reported as a decimal fault value in r0949: opening or closing the brake, the brake-open and brake-closed monitoring, the brake control diagnostics between the Control Unit and the Motor Module, or the monitoring of a Safe Brake Adapter (SBA). Read that value first — every check below depends on it.

• The shielding of the motor cable is not correct.
• The brake control circuit of the Motor Module is defective.

1. Check the connection of the motor holding brake.
2. If the brake is connected in parallel, check the setting of the power unit data set that controls the holding brake (p7015).
3. Check the function of the motor holding brake itself.
4. Check whether a DRIVE-CLiQ communication error exists between the Control Unit and the involved Motor Module and, if required, run a diagnostics routine for the faults identified.
5. Check that the electrical cabinet design and the cable routing comply with EMC regulations — for example the shields of the motor cable and of the brake conductors are connected to the shield connecting plate, and the motor connectors are screwed tight to the housing.
6. If the fault persists, replace the involved Motor Module.
7. When a Safe Brake Module is used: check its connection and replace the Safe Brake Module.
8. When a Safe Brake Adapter (SBA) is used: check the SBA connection and replace the SBA if required.

• 10 and 11 — opening the holding brake failed: no brake is connected or a wire is broken (with p1278 = 1 you can check whether the brake opens), or the brake cable has a ground fault. On an S120M the brake may also have been opened via terminal X4.1 for mounting purposes, which is only permissible while the power supply voltage is switched off.
• 20 — fault in the brake-open state: short-circuit in the brake winding.
• 30 and 31 — closing the holding brake failed: no brake connected or wire breakage (again testable with p1278 = 1), or a short-circuit in the brake winding.
• 40 — fault in the brake-closed state.
• 50 — fault in the brake control circuit of the Control Unit, or a communication fault between the Control Unit and the Motor Module (brake control diagnostics).
• 80 — the brake control of the Control Unit has faulted while a Safe Brake Adapter (SBA) is in use.

• r0949 — holds the fault value of this message; interpret it as a decimal number to find the failed brake operation or state.
• p1278 — brake control diagnostics evaluation: set it to 1 to verify whether the brake opens when the fault value is 10, 11, 30 or 31.
• p7015 — with a parallel-connected brake, this is the power unit data set setting that controls the holding brake; check it here.
• p1215 — motor holding brake configuration; the remedy for this fault refers to this parameter.

Rectify the cause first, then acknowledge the message; the fault reaction stops the drive, and it becomes ready to start again only once the fault has been acknowledged. After that, restart the drive in the usual way.
