A07921Drive: Torque/speed too high

What it means

A07921 is an alarm raised by the drive's load monitoring: the monitored quantity is too high compared with the reference the function watches. Which quantity that is depends on p2193 (Load monitoring configuration). With p2193 = 1 the torque is monitored against the torque/speed envelope characteristic; with p2193 = 2 the speed signal of an external encoder (fed in via p3230) is monitored against the smoothed actual speed r2169. The G120 and G120XA manuals describe both modes, while the manuals for the other families list only the envelope cause.

Why it appears

  • With p2193 = 1: the torque has left the torque/speed envelope characteristic on the high side.
  • With p2193 = 2: the speed delivered by the external encoder (configured at p3230) sits above the smoothed speed actual value r2169.

What to check

  1. Check that the motor and the load are properly connected.
  2. Adapt the parameterization to the actual load — for this code that means the load monitoring settings: p2193 selects the monitoring mode and, in encoder mode (p2193 = 2), p3230 defines the encoder speed source.

Parameters the manual names

  • p2193 — Load monitoring configuration: for this alarm it decides whether the torque is compared with the envelope characteristic (= 1) or the encoder speed is compared with r2169 (= 2).
  • p3230 — CI: Load monitoring speed actual value: in mode 2 the load monitoring reads here the speed signal of the external encoder.
  • r2169 — CO: Actual speed smoothed: the smoothed speed actual value that the encoder signal is measured against in mode 2.

Acknowledging and restarting

This code is an alarm and does not trip the drive: no automatic response is triggered and no acknowledgement is required. Once the torque or speed is back inside the monitored envelope, the message is withdrawn. If it keeps reappearing, work through the checks above.

Questions technicians ask

What does alarm A07921 on a SINAMICS drive mean?

The load monitoring has detected a too-high condition: with p2193 = 1 the torque has left the torque/speed envelope characteristic, with p2193 = 2 the external encoder speed is above the smoothed actual speed r2169.

How is A07921 acknowledged or reset?

No acknowledgement is needed. The alarm ends by itself once the torque or speed is back within the monitored envelope.

What should I check when A07921 appears?

Check the connection between the motor and the load, then adapt the parameterization to the load — p2193, and in encoder mode p3230, are the settings this code uses.
