A07593Encoder 1: Value range for position actual value exceeded

What it means

The position actual value of Encoder 1 is represented in a range from -2147483648 ... 2147483647. Message A07593 appears when this value range is exceeded, i.e. when the position actual value representation overflows. When the overflow occurs, the drive resets the 'referenced' or 'absolute encoder adjusted' status. The alarm value in r2124, interpreted as a decimal number, tells you which of three quantities actually overflowed. Depending on how the drive is configured, the same condition can also be issued as a fault (F) or as a message without reaction (N). Both the S120/S150 and the G130/G150 manuals describe this message identically, so the explanation below applies to all four families.

Why it appears

  • The value range (-2147483648 ... 2147483647) for the position actual value representation was exceeded.
  • With the overflow, the 'referenced' or 'absolute encoder adjusted' status is reset.

What to check

  1. Read the alarm value in r2124 and interpret it as a decimal number; it distinguishes the three overflow situations described below.
  2. Alarm value 1: the position actual value (r2521) has exceeded the value range — check r2521.
  3. Alarm value 2: the encoder position actual value Gn_XIST2 (r0483) or the absolute value after the load gear (r2723) has exceeded the value range — check these two signals.
  4. Alarm value 3: the maximum encoder value multiplied by the factor that converts the absolute position (r0483, r2723) from increments to length units (LU) has exceeded the value range for displaying the position actual value. Reduce the position resolution and the conversion factor: reduce the length unit (LU) per load revolution for rotary encoders in p2506, and/or increase the fine resolution of absolute position actual values in p0419.
  5. In general, if required, reduce the traversing range or the position resolution.

Reading the message value

  • The alarm value is stored in r2124 and is to be interpreted as a decimal number.
  • 1: the position actual value (r2521) has exceeded the value range.
  • 2: the encoder position actual value Gn_XIST2 (r0483) or the absolute value after the load gear (r2723) has exceeded the value range.
  • 3: the maximum encoder value multiplied by the factor to convert the absolute position (r0483, r2723) from increments to length units (LU) has exceeded the value range for displaying the position actual value.

Acknowledging and restarting

As an alarm, this message needs no acknowledgement and the drive takes no protective action while it is active; the entry clears once you deal with the overflow situation itself. Note that the overflow has cleared the 'referenced' or 'absolute encoder adjusted' status, so the axis is no longer referenced or absolutely adjusted. If the drive is configured to raise this condition as a fault (F), it trips the drive with OFF1 — OFF2 or OFF3 as alternatives — and the fault is acknowledged IMMEDIATELY; as a message without reaction (N) it behaves like the alarm, with neither a reaction nor an acknowledgement.
