A07588 — Encoder 2: Position actual value preprocessing does not have a valid encoder

A07588 is the alarm the drive issues when the position actual value preprocessing for Encoder 2 does not have a valid encoder. The manuals print the message as Encoder 2: Position actual value preprocessing does not have a valid encoder. The problem occurs during position actual value preprocessing: an encoder data set has been assigned for Encoder 2, but that data set holds either no encoder data at all — the encoder type selection p0400 is 0 — or data that is invalid, for which the manual gives the rotary encoder pulse number p0408 = 0 as an example. The alarm therefore points at the content of the assigned encoder data set (EDS).

• An encoder data set has been assigned for Encoder 2, but the data set does not contain any encoder data — the encoder type selection p0400 is 0.
• The assigned encoder data set contains invalid data; the manual cites the rotary encoder pulse number p0408 = 0 as an example of such invalid data.

1. Go through the drive data sets and the encoder data sets: p0188 gives the number of the encoder data set assigned to Encoder 2, and p0187 and p0189 do the same for the encoder data sets of Encoder 1 and Encoder 3.
2. In the data set assigned to Encoder 2, make sure an encoder type is selected — the alarm is raised when p0400 = 0.
3. Check the encoder data in that data set for validity, for example that the rotary encoder pulse number p0408 is not 0.
4. On S120 and S150, the manual additionally refers to p2502 (LR encoder assignment) in the remedy for this alarm.

• p0188 (Encoder 2 encoder data set number) — the number of the encoder data set (EDS) assigned to Encoder 2; open this data set to check its content.
• p0400 (Encoder type selection) — must hold a selected encoder type; a value of 0 in the assigned data set is what triggers the alarm.
• p0408 (Rotary encoder pulse number) — must hold a valid value; the manual names p0408 = 0 as invalid encoder data.
• p0187 (Encoder 1 encoder data set number) — the EDS number of Encoder 1, listed in the remedy alongside p0188.
• p0189 (Encoder 3 encoder data set number) — the EDS number of Encoder 3, listed in the remedy alongside p0188.
• p2502 (LR encoder assignment) — named only in the S120/S150 remedy; check this encoder assignment together with the encoder data sets.

No acknowledgement is required for this alarm and the drive does not trip on it. The fix is the correction itself: give the encoder data set assigned to Encoder 2 valid content — an encoder type in p0400 that is not 0 and valid encoder data such as a pulse number in p0408 that is not 0.
