F35403TM: Temperature fault/alarm threshold channel 7 exceeded

What it means

F35403 is raised by the temperature evaluation of channel 7 on the Terminal Module 150 (TM150): either the alarm threshold of the channel (p4102[14]) has been exceeded for longer than the delay time set in the timer p4103[7], or the fault threshold (p4102[15]) has been exceeded. This fault only causes the drive to shut down if there is at least one BICO interconnection between the drive and the Terminal Module. Without such an interconnection the fault does not shut the drive down. Depending on how the drive is configured, the same threshold condition can also be issued only as an alarm or with no reaction at all.

Why it appears

  • The alarm threshold of channel 7 (p4102[14]) has been exceeded for longer than the time set in timer p4103[7].
  • The fault threshold of channel 7 (p4102[15]) has been exceeded.

What to check

  1. Allow the temperature sensor of channel 7 to cool down until its temperature lies below the fault threshold p4102[15] minus the hysteresis p4118[7].
  2. Check the measured sensor resistance in r4101[7] together with the resulting temperature in r4105[7]: for sensor type PTC thermistor or Bimetallic NC contact (p4100[7] = 1, 4), the drive sets r4105[7] to 250 °C when r4101[7] is above 1650 ohms and to -50 °C when it is 1650 ohms or less.
  3. If required, set the fault response of this fault to NONE using p2100 and p2101.

Reading the message value

  • The fault value in r0949, interpreted decimal, contains the temperature actual value of channel 7 at the time the fault was initiated, scaled in 0.1 °C.
  • The current temperature actual value of the channel is output via connector output r4105[7] and can be interconnected.
  • For sensor type PTC thermistor or Bimetallic NC contact (p4100[7] = 1, 4): r4105[7] shows 250 °C when r4101[7] is above 1650 ohms, and -50 °C when r4101[7] is 1650 ohms or less.

Parameters the manual names

  • p4102 — index [14] holds the alarm threshold and index [15] the fault threshold of channel 7; the temperature must fall back below these values.
  • p4103 — timer p4103[7] sets how long channel 7 may stay above its alarm threshold before the fault is initiated.
  • p4100 — sensor type of channel 7; the values 1 and 4 select the PTC thermistor and the Bimetallic NC contact behaviour.
  • p4118 — hysteresis p4118[7]; the sensor must cool to below the fault threshold p4102[15] reduced by this hysteresis.
  • p2100 / p2101 — used together to change the fault response for this fault number, for example to NONE, if required.
  • r4101 — shows the resistance of the channel 7 sensor, which for PTC and bimetallic sensors is judged against 1650 ohms.
  • r4105 — connector output with the channel 7 temperature actual value; it can be interconnected in the drive.
  • r0949 — fault value; for F35403 interpret it decimal as the temperature present at initiation, in 0.1 °C.

Acknowledging and restarting

The fault is acknowledged immediately; a POWER ON also clears it. Before the drive is restarted, the sensor must have cooled down to below the fault threshold p4102[15] minus the hysteresis p4118[7], as the remedy specifies.

Questions technicians ask

What does fault F35403 mean on a SINAMICS drive?

The temperature evaluation channel 7 of a Terminal Module 150 has exceeded its alarm threshold longer than the timer p4103[7] allows, or its fault threshold p4102[15]. The fault value in r0949 holds the temperature at initiation in 0.1 °C.

How do I clear fault F35403?

Let the channel 7 sensor cool down to below p4102[15] minus the hysteresis p4118[7], then acknowledge the fault immediately; a POWER ON also removes it.

Why did F35403 appear but the drive did not stop?

The fault only shuts the drive down if at least one BICO interconnection exists between the drive and the Terminal Module. The same condition can also be configured to appear only as an alarm or with no reaction.

Why does r4105[7] show 250 °C or -50 °C with F35403?

With sensor type PTC thermistor or Bimetallic NC contact (p4100[7] = 1, 4) the drive derives the displayed value directly from the resistance: above 1650 ohms it shows 250 °C, at 1650 ohms or less it shows -50 °C.
