F35401TM: Temperature fault/alarm threshold channel 5 exceeded

What it means

F35401 comes from the temperature evaluation of the Terminal Module 150 (TM150): on channel 5 the measured temperature has either stayed above the alarm threshold longer than the set delay time, or it has exceeded the fault threshold outright. The fault value in r0949 tells you the temperature that was present at the moment of initiation. The same condition can also be issued as an alarm (A) or with no reaction (N); the drive's configuration decides. The fault only causes the drive to shut down if there is at least one BICO interconnection between the drive and the Terminal Module.

Why it appears

The S120/S150 and G130/G150 manuals describe this fault identically, for the temperature evaluation via the Terminal Module 150 (TM150). At least one of these conditions is fulfilled:

  • The alarm threshold has been exceeded longer than the time set in the timer (p4102[10], p4103[5]).
  • The fault threshold has been exceeded (p4102[11]).

What to check

  1. Read the fault value in r0949 as a decimal number: it contains the temperature actual value of channel 5 at the time of initiation, in 0.1 °C.
  2. Check the current value at connector output r4105[5] against the thresholds. With sensor type "PTC thermistor" or "Bimetallic NC contact" (p4100[5] = 1, 4), look at the sensor resistance r4101[5]: above 1650 ohms the drive sets r4105[5] to 250 °C, at 1650 ohms or below to -50 °C.
  3. Allow the temperature sensor to cool down to below p4102[11] minus the hysteresis p4118[5].
  4. Only if the application requires it, set the fault response to NONE via p2100 (fault number) and p2101 (response), then restart the drive.

Reading the message value

  • The message value %1 is the temperature actual value at the time of fault initiation; the drive stores it in r0949 and it is interpreted as a decimal number in units of 0.1 °C.
  • For sensor type "PTC thermistor" and "Bimetallic NC contact" (p4100[5] = 1, 4): if r4101[5] > 1650 ohms, the temperature r4105[5] = 250 °C; if r4101[5] <= 1650 ohms, the temperature r4105[5] = -50 °C.
  • The temperature actual value is displayed via connector output r4105[5] and can be interconnected.

Parameters the manual names

  • p4102[10], p4102[11] — alarm threshold and fault threshold of channel 5; exceeding the fault threshold initiates the fault directly, the alarm threshold only after the delay time has elapsed.
  • p4103[5] — delay time of the timer; the fault is initiated if the alarm threshold p4102[10] stays exceeded longer than this time.
  • p4100[5] — sensor type of channel 5; the value 1 means PTC thermistor, the value 4 bimetallic NC contact, and only for these types does the 1650 ohm evaluation apply.
  • r4101[5] — sensor resistance of the connected sensor; compare it with 1650 ohms to see which temperature (250 °C or -50 °C) the drive derives for a PTC thermistor or bimetallic NC contact.
  • r4105[5] — connector output (CO) with the temperature actual value of channel 5; read it to check the current temperature and interconnect it if required.
  • r0949 — holds the fault value; interpreted as a decimal number it shows the temperature actual value at the time of initiation in 0.1 °C.
  • p4118[5] — hysteresis of the fault/alarm threshold; the sensor has to cool down to below p4102[11] minus this hysteresis for the remedy.
  • p2100, p2101 — enter the fault number with p2100 and the response with p2101; used to set the fault response to NONE if required.

Acknowledging and restarting

Let the temperature sensor of channel 5 cool down until the temperature is below the fault threshold p4102[11] minus the hysteresis p4118[5], then acknowledge the fault (IMMEDIATELY, POWER ON) and restart the drive. Where the same condition is configured as an alarm (A) or as a message with no reaction (N), reaction and acknowledgement are NONE, so there is nothing to acknowledge.
