F31153 — Encoder 1: Identification error

F31153 appears with the manual title “Encoder 1: Identification error”: the drive tried to identify the encoder connected on Encoder 1 and that identification failed. Identification runs while p0400 = 10100 is set — the drive waits for the encoder to identify itself — and in this case an error occurred instead, because The connected encoder was not able to be identified. Depending on the drive configuration, the same condition can also be signalled as an alarm (A) or without any reaction (N) instead of as a fault.

• The connected encoder was not able to be identified: an error occurred during encoder identification (waiting) with p0400 = 10100.
• The fault value in r0949 narrows the cause down: bit 0 set means the data length was incorrect (see the decoding below).

1. Read the fault value in r0949 and check whether bit 0 (data length incorrect) is set.
2. Give up automatic identification and configure the encoder manually according to its data sheet — the encoder type is selected in p0400 (Encoder type selection).
3. Acknowledge the message immediately once the encoder has been configured; the drive takes no automatic action on this message, so nothing else has to be reset.

The fault value is stored in r0949. The S120/S150 manual specifies binary interpretation of this value, the G130/G150 manual hexadecimal; the decoding itself is given identically:

• Bit 0: Data length incorrect.

• p0400 (Encoder type selection) — encoder identification runs with p0400 = 10100; the remedy for this fault is to enter the encoder type from the data sheet manually in this parameter.
• r0949 (Fault value) — the drive stores the fault value here; bit 0 shows that the data length of the identification was incorrect.

Once the encoder has been configured manually according to its data sheet, acknowledge the fault immediately — no waiting period or special acknowledgement sequence is required. The message triggers no automatic drive response; when it is configured as an alarm (A) or as a message without reaction (N), the manuals likewise specify no reaction and no acknowledgement.
