F31142Encoder 1: Battery voltage fault

What it means

F31142 is raised against Encoder 1. While the drive is switched off, the encoder keeps its multiturn information backed up by a battery; the drive detects that this battery no longer supplies enough voltage to check the multiturn information. Depending on how the drive is configured, the same condition can also be signalled as an alarm (A) or with no reaction (N).

Why it appears

  • When the drive is switched off, the encoder uses a battery to back up the multiturn information.
  • The battery voltage is no longer sufficient to check the multiturn information.

What to check

  1. Replace the battery.

Acknowledging and restarting

Once the battery has been replaced, acknowledge the message; the drive accepts the acknowledgement immediately. When F31142 is issued as an alarm (A) or with no reaction (N), neither a drive reaction nor an acknowledgement applies.

What differs between the drive families

Questions technicians ask

What does fault F31142 in a SINAMICS drive mean?

The battery that backs up the multiturn information of Encoder 1 while the drive is switched off no longer supplies enough voltage for the drive to check that information.

How do I clear F31142?

Replace the encoder battery and then acknowledge the message, which the drive accepts immediately.

Can F31142 also appear as an alarm?

Yes. Depending on the drive's configuration, the same condition can also be signalled as an alarm (A) or with no reaction (N); in both cases no acknowledgement is required.
