F31150 — Encoder 1: Initialization error

F31150 tells you that the drive could not initialize Encoder 1: the encoder functionality selected in p0404 cannot be executed — one manual words the same condition as the selected functionality is not operating correctly — and the drive registers an encoder malfunction. Depending on how the drive is configured, the same condition can also be output as an alarm or with no reaction instead of as a fault.

• The encoder functionality selected in p0404 cannot be executed / is not operating correctly.
• An encoder malfunction has been detected; which track or function is affected is coded bit by bit in the fault value, using the bit assignment of p0404.

1. Check that p0404 is set correctly.
2. Check the encoder type used — incremental or absolute — and, for SMCxx, check the encoder cable.
3. If relevant, note any additional fault messages that describe the fault in more detail.

• The drive stores the fault value in r0949; interpret it hexadecimal.
• The bit assignment of the value corresponds to that of p0404 (Encoder configuration effective).
• The manual gives one example: bit 5 set means Error track C/D.

• p0404 (Encoder configuration effective) — the encoder functionality whose setting is failing here; check that it is set correctly.
• r0949 (fault value) — read the coded encoder malfunction here, hexadecimal; its bits follow the p0404 bit assignment.
• p0491 (Motor encoder fault response ENCODER) — the manual's cross-reference for this fault; it holds the encoder fault response the drive executes.

Acknowledge the fault with pulse inhibit: the acknowledgment only takes effect while the drive is not outputting pulses. If the message is configured to appear as an alarm or with no reaction, no acknowledgment is required.
