F13101Know-how protection: Copy protection cannot be activated

What it means

F13101 is raised when an attempt to switch on the know-how protection (KHP) copy protection for the memory card fails on the Control Unit (CU). The fault is signalled locally at the converter at the moment the activation attempt fails. The fault value stored in r0949, read as a decimal number, tells which condition stopped the activation: all descriptions of this fault decode value 0, and the G120 and G120XA manuals additionally decode value 1.

Why it appears

  • An error occurred when the drive attempted to activate the copy protection for the memory card.
  • Fault value 0: a memory card is not inserted.
  • Fault value 1 (decoded in the G120 and G120XA manuals): an invalid memory card is inserted — the card is not a SIEMENS memory card.

What to check

  1. Read the fault value in r0949 and interpret it as a decimal number.
  2. If the value is 0, check that a memory card is inserted in the Control Unit. Insert the memory card and carry out POWER ON so that the drive recognizes it.
  3. If the value is 1, check the inserted card: only a valid SIEMENS memory card can be copy-protected. Insert a valid memory card.
  4. Try to activate the copy protection again via p7765 (KHP configuration).

Reading the message value

  • 0 — a memory card is not inserted.
  • 1 — an invalid memory card is inserted (not SIEMENS); this value is documented for the G120 and G120XA.

Parameters the manual names

  • r0949 — fault value: read it as a decimal number to see why the copy protection could not be activated (0 = no memory card inserted, 1 = invalid card inserted).
  • p7765 — KHP configuration: the parameter with which the copy protection is activated; repeat the activation attempt here after inserting a valid memory card.

Acknowledging and restarting

The drive takes no automatic action in response to this fault; it only signals that the copy protection could not be activated. The fault is acknowledged immediately: insert the memory card — a valid SIEMENS card where fault value 1 applies — carry out POWER ON so the Control Unit detects the card, and repeat the activation via p7765. No further reset procedure is required.

Questions technicians ask

What does fault F13101 on a SINAMICS drive mean?

The drive attempted to activate know-how protection (KHP) copy protection for the memory card and the activation failed. The fault value in r0949 shows the reason, for example that no memory card is inserted.

Why do I get F13101 when activating know-how protection?

Either no memory card is inserted (fault value 0), or — on the G120 and G120XA — an invalid card that is not from SIEMENS is inserted (fault value 1).

How do I clear fault F13101?

Insert a memory card — a valid SIEMENS card where fault value 1 is shown — and carry out POWER ON. Then try to activate the copy protection again via p7765.

Which parameter holds the fault value of F13101?

r0949, interpreted as a decimal number: 0 means a memory card is not inserted, 1 means an invalid (not SIEMENS) memory card is inserted.
