F07562Drive, encoder: Position tracking, incremental encoder not possible

What it means

F07562 means that the requested position tracking for an incremental encoder is not possible: the drive rejects the function in the way the encoder is currently configured. Depending on the drive configuration, the same condition can also be output as an alarm (A07562).

Why it appears

  • The requested position tracking for incremental encoders is not supported.
  • The connected encoder type does not support the "Position tracking incremental encoder" function.
  • Position tracking cannot be activated because the memory of the internal NVRAM is not sufficient, or a Control Unit does not have an NVRAM.
  • A linear encoder is used that does not support the "position tracking" function.

What to check

  1. Read the fault value in r0949 (hexadecimal) to determine the fault cause, the component number and the affected encoder data set.
  2. Check the encoder parameterization: the encoder type in p0400 and the effective encoder configuration in p0404; r0456 shows which encoder configurations the drive actually supports.
  3. If the fault cause is the internal NVRAM, use a Control Unit with sufficient NVRAM.
  4. If position tracking is not required for the incremental encoder, deselect it with p0411.3 = 0.

Reading the message value

  • The message value shows the fault cause, the component number and the encoder data set.
  • The drive enters the fault value in r0949; interpret it in hexadecimal as ccc cbbaa:
    • aa = encoder data set
    • bb = component number
    • cccc = fault cause:
      • 00 hex = 0 dec: the encoder type does not support the "Position tracking incremental encoder" function.
      • 01 hex = 1 dec: position tracking cannot be activated because the memory of the internal NVRAM is not sufficient or a Control Unit does not have an NVRAM.
      • 04 hex = 4 dec: a linear encoder is used that does not support the "position tracking" function.

Parameters the manual names

  • r0949 — read the fault value here (hexadecimal); it contains the fault cause, the component number and the encoder data set.
  • p0400 — check the selected encoder type: it decides whether the encoder supports the "Position tracking incremental encoder" function.
  • p0404 — check the encoder configuration that is effectively active for the connected encoder.
  • r0456 — check which encoder configurations the drive actually supports before re-parameterizing.
  • p0411 — measuring gear configuration: set bit 3 to 0 (p0411.3 = 0) to deselect position tracking for the incremental encoder.

Acknowledging and restarting

The fault is cleared by correcting the encoder parameterization, not by acknowledgment alone. The drive reacts with OFF2 and restarts only after the fault has been acknowledged — immediately, e.g. with a POWER ON. When the condition is signaled only as an alarm, the drive neither reacts nor requires an acknowledgment.

Questions technicians ask

What does fault F07562 in SINAMICS mean?

The requested position tracking for an incremental encoder is not supported — either the encoder type does not support the function, the Control Unit has no or too little NVRAM, or a linear encoder without position tracking is connected.

How do I clear F07562?

Check the encoder parameterization in p0400 and p0404, use a Control Unit with sufficient NVRAM if that is the cause, or set p0411.3 = 0 to deselect position tracking. Then acknowledge the fault and restart the drive.

What does the fault value of F07562 tell me?

r0949 holds the value ccc cbbaa in hexadecimal: aa is the encoder data set, bb the component number and cccc the fault cause — 00 hex (encoder type does not support the function), 01 hex (NVRAM insufficient or missing) or 04 hex (unsupported linear encoder).

Why does the drive show A07562 without switching off?

Depending on the configuration, the drive can output the same condition as an alarm instead of a fault. As an alarm it causes no reaction and requires no acknowledgment.
