F07553Drive encoder: Sensor Module configuration not supported

What it means

F07553 reports that the connected Sensor Module does not support the configuration that has been requested of it. The drive compares the functions requested in the encoder data set with the functions the Sensor Module reports as supported and raises this fault as soon as a requested function is missing or a requested routine is not available. The message value names the encoder data set concerned, the first incorrect bit and the incorrect parameter. Depending on how the drive is configured, the same condition can also be output as an alarm (A) instead of a fault.

Why it appears

  • The Sensor Module does not support the requested configuration.
  • In p0430 (requested functions) at least one bit is set that is not set in r0458 (supported functions). Bits 19, 28, 29, 30 and 31 are excepted from this check.
  • Pole position identification is requested (p1982 > 0) although the Sensor Module does not support it (r0458.16 = 0).
  • In p0437 (requested functions) at least one bit is set that is not set in r0459 (supported functions).

What to check

  1. Check the encoder parameterization (p0430, p0437 — on S120 and S150 also p0454) against the functions the Sensor Module actually supports.
  2. Check the pole position identification routine (p1982); the fault constellation is p1982 > 0 while r0458.16 = 0, i.e. pole position identification is requested but not supported.
  3. Use the matching encoder evaluation: r0458 and r0459 show which functions the connected Sensor Module supports.

Reading the message value

  • The fault value is read in r0949 and must be interpreted hexadecimal; it has the layout ddccbbaa hex.
  • aa: encoder data set number.
  • bb: first incorrect bit.
  • cc: incorrect parameter — cc = 0: p0430, cc = 1: p0437, cc = 2: r0459. cc = 3 (p0454) is listed for S120 and S150; the G130/G150 manual does not include this case.
  • dd: reserved (always 0).
  • The message value shown on the panel repeats the same three items: encoder data set, first incorrect bit and incorrect parameter.

Parameters the manual names

  • p0430 (Sensor Module configuration / SM config): holds the requested functions; check that no bit is set that r0458 does not report as supported (bits 19, 28, 29, 30 and 31 are excepted).
  • p0437 (Sensor Module configuration extended / SM config ext): holds the requested functions of the extended configuration; check them against r0459.
  • p0454 (Sensor Module configuration extended Part 2 / SM config ext 2): appears in the fault value as cc = 3 and belongs to the encoder parameterization to be checked on S120 and S150.
  • r0458 (Sensor Module properties / SM properties): shows the functions the Sensor Module supports; compare it with p0430 — bit 16 tells whether pole position identification is supported.
  • r0459 (Sensor Module properties extended / SM prop ext): shows the supported functions of the extended configuration; compare it with p0437.
  • p1982 (PolID selection / PolID selection): a value greater than 0 requests pole position identification; check this routine when the Sensor Module does not support it (r0458.16 = 0).
  • r0949 (Fault value / Fault value): read the fault value here and interpret it hexadecimal according to the decoding above.

Acknowledging and restarting

Acknowledge the fault immediately; a POWER ON is also required before the drive can be restarted.

Questions technicians ask

What does fault F07553 in SINAMICS mean?

The Sensor Module does not support the requested encoder configuration: the drive found a requested function in p0430 or p0437 that the Sensor Module does not offer (r0458 or r0459), or pole position identification was requested although r0458.16 = 0.

How do I clear F07553?

Check the encoder parameterization (p0430, p0437 and, on S120/S150, p0454), check the pole position identification routine (p1982) and use an encoder evaluation that matches r0458 and r0459. Then acknowledge the fault; a POWER ON is also required.

How is the F07553 fault value decoded?

Read r0949 as hexadecimal ddccbbaa: aa is the encoder data set number, bb the first incorrect bit and cc the incorrect parameter (0 = p0430, 1 = p0437, 2 = r0459, 3 = p0454). dd is reserved and always 0.

Why is p1982 involved in F07553?

A value greater than 0 in p1982 requests pole position identification. If r0458.16 = 0, the Sensor Module does not support pole position identification and the drive raises this fault.
