A33419Encoder 3: Track A or B outside tolerance

What it means

A33419 tells you that the signal evaluation of Encoder 3 can only just keep the A or B track signals within range: the amplitude, phase or offset correction applied to one of the two tracks has reached its limit. The same condition can also be output as a fault or as a message with no reaction — which of the three forms appears is decided by the drive configuration. As an alarm, the condition does not force the drive to stop.

Why it appears

  • The amplitude/phase/offset correction for track A or B of Encoder 3 is at the limit.
  • The limits the drive works to: the amplitude error correction when Amplitude B / Amplitude A = 0.78 ... 1.27, the phase correction when the phase is 96 degrees, and the offset correction at +/-140 mV with an SMC20 or +/-650 mV with an SMC10.

What to check

  1. For encoders without their own bearings (for example toothed-wheel encoders), check the mechanical mounting tolerances.
  2. Check the plug connections, including the transition resistance.
  3. Check the encoder signals.
  4. Replace the encoder or the encoder cable.

Reading the message value

The drive stores the message value as the alarm value in r2124; the manual specifies interpreting it hexadecimal. The digit positions tell you which correction on which track has hit its minimum or maximum:

  • xxxx1: Minimum of the offset correction, track B
  • xxxx2: Maximum of the offset correction, track B
  • xxx1x: Minimum of the offset correction, track A
  • xxx2x: Maximum of the offset correction, track A
  • xx1xx: Minimum of the amplitude correction, track B/A
  • xx2xx: Maximum of the amplitude correction, track B/A
  • x1xxx: Minimum of the phase error correction
  • x2xxx: Maximum of the phase error correction
  • 1xxxx: Minimum of the cubic correction
  • 2xxxx: Maximum of the cubic correction

Acknowledging and restarting

No acknowledgement is needed for the alarm form: it withdraws itself once the corrections for tracks A and B are back inside the limits. If the drive is configured to output the same condition as a fault, the fault does not switch the drive off by itself, but it must be acknowledged immediately before a restart.
