A33412 — Encoder 3: Encoder signals an internal alarm

A33412 tells you that the encoder connected as Encoder 3 has detected a problem inside itself and reports this to the drive over the serial protocol: the drive receives the position protocol with an error bit set. On S120 and S150 the manual titles the message Encoder 3: Encoder signals an internal alarm, on G130 and G150 it is titled Encoder 3: Error bit set in the serial protocol — both describe the same condition. Depending on the drive configuration, the same condition can also be output as a fault or with no reaction instead of this alarm.

• The encoder connected as Encoder 3 signals an internal alarm via the serial protocol: the drive receives a position protocol in which the fault bit or the alarm bit is set. The indication comes from the encoder itself — the drive only evaluates what the encoder reports.

1. Carry out a POWER ON for all components — switch everything off and on again.
2. Check that the encoder cables are routed in compliance with EMC.
3. Check the plug connections.
4. Replace the encoder.

• The drive stores the alarm value for this message in r2124; interpret the value binary.
• Bit 0: fault bit in the position protocol.
• Bit 1: alarm bit in the position protocol.

• r2124 — alarm value: read the value the drive reports with this alarm in binary to see which bit Encoder 3 has set in the position protocol.

No acknowledgement is required for the alarm itself, and the drive takes no reaction of its own. If the drive is configured to output the same condition as a fault instead, it must be acknowledged immediately. Work through the checks in the order above: begin with a POWER ON of all components and replace the encoder if the message persists.
