A33429Encoder 3: Position difference hall sensor/track C/D and A/B too large

What it means

On Encoder 3 the drive compares the position information of the hall sensor / track C/D with tracks A/B. A33429 is raised when this difference becomes too large: the error for track C/D is greater than +/-15° mechanical or +/-60° electrical, or the error for the Hall signals is greater than +/-60° electrical. One period of track C/D corresponds to 360° mechanical, one period of the Hall signal to 360° electrical.

The message appears as an alarm; depending on the drive configuration, the same condition can also be output as a fault (F) or as a message without a reaction (N).

Why it appears

  • The measured error for track C/D exceeds +/-15° mechanical or +/-60° electrical, or the measured error for the Hall signals exceeds +/-60° electrical.
  • Hall sensors connected as an equivalent for the C/D tracks are connected with the incorrect rotational sense.
  • The supply values used are not accurate enough.

What to check

  1. Check whether track C or D is not connected.
  2. Correct the direction of rotation of a Hall sensor possibly connected as an equivalent for track C/D.
  3. Check that the encoder cables are routed in compliance with EMC.
  4. Check the adjustment of the Hall sensor.

Reading the message value

  • Track C/D affected: r2124 (interpret decimal) holds the measured deviation as a mechanical angle, 16 bits with sign, where 182 dec corresponds to 1°.
  • Hall signals affected: r2124 (interpret decimal) holds the measured deviation as an electrical angle, 16 bits with sign, where 182 dec corresponds to 1°.

Parameters the manual names

  • r2124 — alarm value of this message: read it as a decimal number to see the measured deviation, as a mechanical angle for track C/D or as an electrical angle for the Hall signals (182 dec corresponds to 1°).

Acknowledging and restarting

As an alarm, A33429 requires no acknowledgment and the drive takes no automatic action; the message points to a measuring deviation on Encoder 3 that should be resolved using the checks above. If the drive outputs the same condition as a fault, it must be acknowledged immediately before the drive can be restarted.

The same on every family

Every manual that describes A33429 gives it the same reaction, acknowledgement and message class.

Questions technicians ask

What does alarm A33429 mean on a SINAMICS drive?

Encoder 3 reports that the position difference between the hall sensor/track C/D and tracks A/B is too large: more than +/-15° mechanical or +/-60° electrical for track C/D, or more than +/-60° electrical for the Hall signals.

How is the alarm value of A33429 interpreted?

The drive writes the measured deviation into r2124, to be read as a decimal number. For track C/D it is a mechanical angle, for the Hall signals an electrical angle; in both cases 16 bits with sign and 182 dec corresponds to 1°.

How do I fix alarm A33429?

Check whether track C or D is not connected, correct the rotational sense of a Hall sensor connected as an equivalent for track C/D, verify EMC-compliant routing of the encoder cables, and check the adjustment of the Hall sensor.

Does A33429 stop the drive or need an acknowledgment?

As an alarm it does not: the drive takes no automatic action and no acknowledgment is required. If the same condition is output as a fault, it must be acknowledged immediately before restart.
