What it means
F35220 is raised when the signals that Terminal Module 41 (TM41) puts out on tracks A/B have reached the limit frequency — from that point on the output signals are no longer in synchronism with the specified setpoint. Depending on the configured message type, the drive can also report the same condition as an alarm (A) or with no reaction (N) instead of as a fault.
Why it appears
- The A/B track output signals of the Terminal Module 41 (TM41) have reached the limit frequency and are no longer in synchronism with the specified setpoint.
- In SIMOTION operating mode (p4400 = 0): if the TM41 has been configured as the technology project, the fault is also output in response to short-circuited A/B signals in X520.
- In SINAMICS operating mode (p4400 = 1):
- the fine resolution of the TM41 set in p0418 does not match that of the connector input interconnected at p4420;
- the encoder position actual value r0479 interconnected at connector input p4420 has an excessively high actual speed;
- the output signals correspond to a speed greater than the maximum speed of the TM41 (r1082).
What to check
- Read p4400 first: it selects the TM41 operating mode, and which causes apply — and therefore which steps follow — depends on whether SIMOTION mode (p4400 = 0) or SINAMICS mode (p4400 = 1) is set.
- Enter a lower speed setpoint in p1155.
- Reduce the encoder pulse number in p0408.
- In SIMOTION mode (p4400 = 0) additionally check track A/B for short-circuits.
- In SINAMICS mode (p4400 = 1) verify the conditions the drive names as causes: the fine resolution in p0418 matches the connector input interconnected at p4420, the actual speed of r0479 is not excessively high, and the output signals do not correspond to a speed above the TM41 maximum speed r1082.
Parameters the manual names
- p4400 — TM41 encoder emulation operating mode: read it first, because = 0 selects the SIMOTION causes and remedies and = 1 the SINAMICS ones.
- p1155 — speed setpoint 1 of the speed controller: enter a lower speed setpoint here in either operating mode.
- p0408 — rotary encoder pulse number: reduce it so the output frequency drops below the limit; the manual lists this step for both operating modes.
- p0418 — fine resolution of the TM41: in SINAMICS mode it must match that of the connector input interconnected at p4420.
- p4420 — connector input for the TM41 encoder emulation position setpoint: check here which signal is interconnected and with which fine resolution.
- r0479 — diagnostics encoder position actual value: read the actual speed here, because an excessively high speed at this input triggers the fault in SINAMICS mode.
- r1082 — maximum speed of the TM41: in SINAMICS mode the fault is raised when the output signals correspond to a speed greater than this value.
Acknowledging and restarting
Acknowledge the fault immediately; a POWER ON also clears it, after which the drive can be restarted. The manual adds a warning for the alarm variant: The output signal is no longer monitored after changing the message type to "Alarm" (A).

Questions technicians ask
What does fault F35220 in SINAMICS mean?
The A/B track signals that Terminal Module 41 (TM41) outputs have reached the limit frequency, so the output signals are no longer in synchronism with the specified setpoint.
How do I fix fault F35220?
Enter a lower speed setpoint in p1155 and reduce the encoder pulse number in p0408; in SIMOTION operating mode (p4400 = 0) also check track A/B for short-circuits. The fault is acknowledged immediately, or by POWER ON.
Why does F35220 occur when p4400 = 1?
In SINAMICS operating mode the drive reports it when the fine resolution in p0418 does not match the connector input interconnected at p4420, when the actual speed of r0479 is excessively high, or when the output signals correspond to a speed above the TM41 maximum in r1082.
Can F35220 also appear as an alarm?
Yes — depending on the configured message type the same condition can be output as an alarm (A) or with no reaction (N). Once the message type is changed to an alarm, the output signal is no longer monitored.
