What it means

This fault comes from the temperature evaluation of a Terminal Module (TM) and concerns sensor channel 2. It is raised when, on this channel, either the alarm threshold has been exceeded for longer than the delay time set in the timer, or the fault threshold has been exceeded outright. The temperature itself is acquired by the Terminal Module, and the manual points out explicitly: This fault only causes the drive to shut down if there is at least one BICO interconnection between the drive and the Terminal Module. Depending on how the message is configured, the same condition can also be signalled as an alarm (A) or with no reaction (N).

Why it appears

Both manuals describing this code state the same two initiating conditions for the temperature evaluation via the Terminal Module, so there is no difference between the drive families:

  • The alarm threshold of channel 2 (p4102[4]) has been exceeded for longer than the delay time set in the timer p4103[2].
  • The fault threshold of channel 2 (p4102[5]) has been exceeded.

What to check

  1. Read the temperature of channel 2 at the connector output r4105[2]; the value can also be interconnected. The fault value stored in r0949 tells you which temperature was present when the fault was initiated.
  2. If a PTC thermistor or a bimetallic NC contact is connected (p4100[2] = 1, 4), interpret the displayed value as a resistance state: if r4101[2] > 1650 ohms, the drive outputs 250 °C at r4105[2]; if r4101[2] ≤ 1650 ohms, it outputs -50 °C.
  3. Compare the value against the alarm threshold p4102[4] and the fault threshold p4102[5], and check the delay time in p4103[2] that applies when only the alarm threshold is exceeded.
  4. Allow the temperature sensor to cool down until the value lies below the fault threshold p4102[5] minus the hysteresis of 5 K - on the TM150 this hysteresis can be set with p4118[2].
  5. If a shutdown is not wanted for this signal, set the fault response to NONE for this fault using p2100 and p2101.

Reading the message value

  • The fault value (r0949, interpret decimal) contains the temperature actual value at the time the fault was initiated, in 0.1 °C.
  • The message value %1 carries this temperature, so the stored number directly reflects how warm channel 2 was when the fault tripped.

Parameters the manual names

  • p4100 - sensor type of channel 2; values 1 and 4 correspond to PTC thermistor and bimetallic NC contact, for which the drive evaluates resistance rather than a linear temperature.
  • p4102 - thresholds of channel 2: index [4] holds the alarm threshold, index [5] the fault threshold the sensor must cool below again.
  • p4103 - delay time of channel 2 (p4103[2]): how long the alarm threshold may be exceeded before the fault is initiated.
  • r4101 - sensor resistance of the channel; for PTC thermistor and bimetallic NC contact it is compared against 1650 ohms.
  • r4105 - (CO) temperature actual value of channel 2, displayed via this connector output and available for interconnection.
  • r0949 - fault value; read as a decimal number it gives the temperature at fault initiation in 0.1 °C.
  • p4118 - on the TM150, sets the hysteresis of the fault/alarm thresholds (5 K by default).
  • p2100 - enter the number of the fault whose response you want to change.
  • p2101 - sets the new response (for example NONE) for the fault number entered in p2100.

Acknowledging and restarting

With the standard response the drive trips: the pulses are cancelled immediately (OFF2) and the drive coasts down. Acknowledgement is IMMEDIATELY (POWER ON), i.e. the fault is cleared by switching the drive on again. Before restarting, the sensor must have cooled so that the value at r4105[2] lies below the fault threshold p4102[5] minus the hysteresis (5 K; TM150 via p4118[2]). If the message is configured as an alarm (A) or with no reaction (N), the manual specifies reaction NONE and acknowledgement NONE, so no automatic shutdown occurs and nothing needs to be acknowledged.
