What it means
F33121 is issued by Encoder 3 when an error is detected during actual value sensing. On the G130 and G150 the manual titles the condition Encoder 3: Coarse position error
and states that, as a result of this error, it must be assumed that the actual value sensing supplies an incorrect coarse position. On the S120 and S150 the same code appears as Encoder 3: Determined commutation position incorrect
and signals an error in the sensing of the commutation position actual value. Depending on how the drive is configured, the same condition can also be issued as an alarm (A) or with no reaction (N).
Why it appears
- For the VECTOR_G drive object (G130, G150): an error was detected on the module used for actual value sensing; because of it, the actual value sensing must be assumed to supply an incorrect coarse position.
- For the SERVO and VECTOR drive objects and their variants, and for HLA (S120, S150): an error was detected in the actual value sensing of the commutation position.
What to check
- Replace the motor with DRIVE-CLiQ, or replace the appropriate Sensor Module.
Acknowledging and restarting
The fault can be acknowledged once the drive has inhibited the pulses; after acknowledging, the drive can be restarted. Where the same condition is raised as an alarm or with no reaction, the manual specifies no acknowledgement for those variants.
The same on every family
Every manual that describes F33121 gives it the same reaction, acknowledgement and message class.
| Drive family | Reaction | Acknowledge | Message class | Component | Manual |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| G130, G150 | OFF1 (NONE, OFF2, OFF3) | PULSE INHIBIT | Actual position/speed value incorrect or not available (11) | Encoder 3 | SINAMICS G130, G150 List Manual · p. 1815 |
| S120, S150 | OFF1 (NONE, OFF2, OFF3) | PULSE INHIBIT | Actual position/speed value incorrect or not available (11) | Encoder 3 | SINAMICS S120, S150 List Manual · p. 3140 |

Questions technicians ask
What does fault F33121 on a SINAMICS drive mean?
Encoder 3 has reported an error during actual value sensing. On G130/G150 the coarse position must be assumed to be incorrect; on S120/S150 the determined commutation position is incorrect.
How do I clear fault F33121?
The manuals give one remedy: replace the motor with DRIVE-CLiQ or the appropriate Sensor Module. Afterwards the fault is acknowledged and the drive restarted.
Can F33121 also appear as an alarm?
Yes. Depending on the drive configuration, the same condition can also be issued as an alarm (A) or with no reaction (N); for those variants no acknowledgement is specified.
Why do the manuals use different titles for F33121?
The G130/G150 manual calls it Encoder 3: Coarse position error, while the S120/S150 manual calls it Encoder 3: Determined commutation position incorrect. Both describe the same Encoder 3 sensing error.
