What it means
F33116 is raised by the monitoring of the third encoder (Encoder 3) when the analog level of its two track signals A and B leaves the permissible band. On the G130 and G150 the message is titled “Encoder 3: Amplitude error monitoring track A + B”: it trips when the amplitude of the rectified signals A and B and the amplitude derived from the square root of A^2 + B^2 are not within the tolerance bandwidth. On the S120 and S150 the same code is titled “Encoder 3: Signal level track A or B too low” and trips when the signal level of the rectified A and B signals falls below the permissible limit value. In both cases the nominal signal level of the encoder must lie between 375 mV and 600 mV (500 mV -25/+20 %); the monitoring responds below 130 mV and, on the G130/G150, also above 955 mV. The drive object is switched off until the fault is acknowledged. Depending on the drive configuration, the same condition can also be output as an alarm or without any automatic reaction.
Why it appears
- The amplitude of the rectified encoder signals A and B and the amplitude derived from the square root of A^2 + B^2 are not within the tolerance bandwidth — this is how the G130/G150 description words the trigger.
- On the S120/S150 the same fault is raised when the signal level of the rectified encoder signals A and B falls below the permissible limit value.
What to check
- Check that the encoder cables and shielding are routed in compliance with EMC.
- Check the plug connections.
- Replace the encoder or the encoder cable.
- Check the Sensor Module, for example its contacts.
Reading the message value
- The drive writes the measured signal levels of both tracks into the fault value r0949, to be interpreted hexadecimal as yyyyxxxx hex: yyyy is the signal level of track B (16 bits with sign), xxxx is the signal level of track A (16 bits with sign).
- On the operator panel or in the commissioning tool the message value appears as “A track: %1, B-track: %2”, i.e. the two 16-bit values of tracks A and B.
- For orientation: a signal level of 500 mV peak value corresponds to the numerical value 5333 hex = 21299 dec, so the stored numbers can be compared against the nominal range of 375 mV to 600 mV.
- Note: the analog values of the amplitude error are not measured at the same time as the hardware fault output by the Sensor Module.

Acknowledging and restarting
The fault must be acknowledged before the drive restarts; acknowledgement is possible immediately once the message is standing. After the cause has been removed and the encoder signal level is back inside the tolerance band, the drive can be started again. Where the condition is configured as an alarm or as a message without reaction, no acknowledgement is required.
