What it means

F33111 means that Encoder 3 itself signals an internal error: the encoder error word (the absolute encoder fault word) contains set fault bits that the drive evaluates. On the G130 and G150 the code is titled Encoder 3: Absolute encoder internal fault, on the S120 and S150 Encoder 3: Encoder signals an internal error (detailed information); the meaning and the handling are the same. Depending on the drive configuration, the same condition can also be output as an alarm or without a reaction instead of a fault.

Why it appears

  • The encoder error word provides detailed information (error bit) — the error is reported by the encoder itself, not raised by a drive-side monitoring function.
  • What the encoder reports is one of the set fault bits: lighting system failed, signal amplitude too low, position value incorrect, an overvoltage, undervoltage or overcurrent condition in the encoder power supply, or a battery that must be changed.
  • If the supplementary information is yyyy = 1, the encoder is defective.
  • With p0404.8 = 0 the displayed fault value is intended for internal Siemens troubleshooting only.

What to check

  1. Read the fault value in r0949 and interpret it binary as yyyyxxxx hex: yyyy = supplementary information, xxxx = fault cause. The bit decoding below applies when p0404.8 = 1; with p0404.8 = 0 the fault value is meant for internal Siemens troubleshooting.
  2. Bit 0, 1, 2 or 5 set (lighting system failed, signal amplitude too low, position value incorrect, encoder power supply overcurrent condition): the encoder is defective — replace the encoder; where the motor encoder has a direct DRIVE-CLiQ socket, replace the motor.
  3. Bit 3 or 4 set (encoder power supply overvoltage or undervoltage condition — a 5 V power supply voltage fault): when using an SMC, check the plug-in cable between the encoder and the SMC or replace the SMC; when a motor encoder with a direct DRIVE-CLiQ connection (a motor with DRIVE-CLiQ) is used, replace the motor.
  4. Bit 6 set: the battery must be changed — this only applies to encoders with battery back-up.
  5. yyyy = 1: the encoder is defective — replace the encoder.

Reading the message value

The drive writes the message value as Fault cause: %1 bin, additional information: %2 — the fault cause in binary plus the additional information. The fault value in r0949, interpreted binary, has the structure yyyyxxxx hex:

  • yyyy = supplementary information
  • xxxx = fault cause

For yyyy = 0 the fault cause bits mean:

  • Bit 0: Lighting system failed.
  • Bit 1: Signal amplitude too low.
  • Bit 2: Position value incorrect.
  • Bit 3: Encoder power supply overvoltage condition.
  • Bit 4: Encoder power supply undervoltage condition.
  • Bit 5: Encoder power supply overcurrent condition.
  • Bit 6: The battery must be changed.

Parameters the manual names

Acknowledging and restarting

Once the encoder, its supply path, the SMC or the battery has been dealt with according to the set fault bit, acknowledge the fault — acknowledgement is performed with pulse inhibit, i.e. after the drive has been switched to a pulse-inhibited state — and restart the drive. When the condition is configured as an alarm or without a reaction, acknowledging is not required.
