F33103Encoder 3: Amplitude error track R

What it means

F33103 reports that the amplitude of the track R signal — the zero mark (reference pulse) track — of Encoder 3 does not lie within the tolerance bandwidth. The manuals print the same condition under two titles: "Encoder 3: Amplitude error track R" and "Encoder 3: Signal level zero track (track R) outside tolerance"; both describe the identical monitoring on Encoder 3.

The fault is initiated when the unipolar voltage level is exceeded (RP/RN) or when the differential amplitude is undershot. Depending on the drive configuration, the same condition can also be issued as an alarm (A) or without any reaction (N).

Why it appears

  • The zero mark signal level (track R) of Encoder 3 lies outside the tolerance bandwidth.
  • The unipolar voltage level on RP/RN has been exceeded.
  • Alternatively, the differential amplitude of the encoder signal has been undershot.

What to check

  1. Check the speed range — the frequency characteristic (amplitude characteristic) of the measuring equipment may not be sufficient for the speed range used.
  2. Check that the encoder cables and the shielding are routed in compliance with EMC.
  3. Check the plug connections and contacts of the encoder cable.
  4. Check the encoder type — an encoder with zero marks must be used.
  5. Check whether the zero mark is connected and that the signal cables RP and RN are connected correctly, not with the incorrect polarity.
  6. Replace the encoder cable.
  7. If the coding disk is soiled or the lighting aged, replace the encoder.

Reading the message value

  • The fault value in r0949 is to be interpreted hexadecimal in the format yyyyxxxx hex, where yyyy = 0 and xxxx is the signal level of track R (16 bits with sign).
  • The value can only be represented between -32768 ... 32767 dec, corresponding to -770 ... 770 mV.
  • A signal level of 500 mV peak value corresponds to the numerical value 5333 hex = 21299 dec.
  • Monitoring responds when a unipolar signal level lies below 1400 mV or above 3500 mV, or when the differential signal level lies below -1600 mV.
  • The analog value of the amplitude error is not measured at the same time as the hardware fault output by the Sensor Module.
  • The signal level is only evaluated when Sensor Module properties are available (r0459.31 = 1) and monitoring is active (p0437.31 = 1).
