F32126Encoder 2: Amplitude AB too high

What it means

F32126 reports that the signal level of encoder 2 is too high — the amplitude of tracks A and B exceeds the permissible limit. The S120/S150 manual titles the code “Encoder 2: Signal level track A or B too high”, the G130/G150 manual “Encoder 2: Amplitude AB too high”; both describe the same condition. A healthy encoder 2 delivers a nominal signal level of 375 mV to 600 mV (500 mV -25/+20 %). The drive raises the code as soon as the response threshold is crossed: |A| + |B| above 1120 mV, or the root of A^2 + B^2 above 955 mV.

Depending on the drive configuration, the same condition can also be issued as an alarm (A) or without any reaction (N). The neighbouring encoder-2 codes F32120, F32121, F32122, F32123, F32125, F32129, F32130 and F32131 cover other encoder-2 conditions and are described on their own pages.

Why it appears

  • The signal level of encoder 2 — |A| + |B|, or the amplitude taken as root of A^2 + B^2 — exceeds the permissible limit; the G130/G150 manual words this as the amplitude exceeding the permissible tolerance.

What to check

  1. Check that the encoder cables and their shielding are routed in compliance with EMC.
  2. Replace the encoder or the encoder cable.

Reading the message value

The drive stores the fault value in r0949, to be interpreted as hexadecimal, in the form yyyyxxxx hex; the message text itself reads “Amplitude: %1, Angle: %2”. The decoding:

  • yyyy = angle
  • xxxx = amplitude, i.e. root of A^2 + B^2 (16 bits without sign)
  • Scaling: a signal level of 500 mV peak value corresponds to the numerical value 299A hex = 10650 dec.
  • The angle 0 ... FFFF hex corresponds to 0 ... 360 degrees of the fine position; zero degrees is present at the negative zero crossover of track B.
  • The analog values of the amplitude error are not measured at the same time with the hardware fault output by the Sensor Module.

Parameters the manual names

  • r0949 — fault value: read the stored value here (interpret hexadecimal) and split it into angle (yyyy) and amplitude (xxxx) for encoder 2.

Acknowledging and restarting

In the fault variant the code is acknowledged with pulse inhibit (PULSE INHIBIT): the acknowledgement is issued while pulses are inhibited, after which the drive can be restarted. When the condition is configured as alarm (A) or without reaction (N), the drive triggers no response and no acknowledgement is required.

Questions technicians ask

What does SINAMICS fault F32126 mean?

The signal level of encoder 2 — the amplitude of tracks A and B — exceeds the permissible limit: |A| + |B| above 1120 mV or the root of A^2 + B^2 above 955 mV. The nominal signal level should lie between 375 mV and 600 mV.

How do I clear fault F32126?

Check that the encoder cables and shielding are routed in compliance with EMC, then replace the encoder or the encoder cable. Afterwards acknowledge the fault with pulse inhibit and restart the drive.

What is stored in the fault value of F32126?

r0949 holds yyyyxxxx hex: yyyy is the angle, xxxx the amplitude (root of A^2 + B^2, 16 bits without sign). A 500 mV peak signal level corresponds to 299A hex = 10650 dec, and the angle 0 ... FFFF hex spans 0 ... 360 degrees of the fine position.

Does F32126 always stop the drive?

No. Depending on the configuration the same condition can also be issued as an alarm (A) or without any reaction (N); in those variants the drive takes no action and no acknowledgement is needed.
