What it means
A32443 reports that the unipolar signal level on the C/D tracks of Encoder 2 has left the permissible tolerance. The drive monitors the level across CP/CN and across DP/DN: the unipolar nominal signal level of the encoder must lie in the range 2500 mV +/- 500 mV, and the response thresholds are below 1700 mV and above 3300 mV. The manuals print this message as Encoder 2: Signal level track C/D outside tolerance (alarm)
and as Encoder 2: Unipolar CD signal level outside specification
— both titles describe the same condition. Depending on how the drive is configured, the same condition can also be issued as a fault (F) or with no reaction (N). Note that the signal level is only evaluated when the Sensor Module properties are available (r0459.31 = 1) and when monitoring is active (p0437.31 = 1).
Why it appears
- The unipolar signal level for Encoder 2 — measured across CP/CN or across DP/DN — lies outside the permissible tolerance.
What to check
- Check that the encoder cables and the shielding are routed in compliance with EMC.
- Check the plug connections and the contacts of the encoder cable.
- Check whether the C/D tracks are connected correctly — have the signal cables CP and CN, or DP and DN, been interchanged?
- Replace the encoder cable.
Reading the message value
- The drive stores the alarm value in r2124 and outputs it in the message value as the fault cause in binary.
- Bit 0 = 1: either CP or CN is outside the tolerance.
- Bit 16 = 1: either DP or DN is outside the tolerance.

- r2124 — alarm value: read it here, interpreted in binary, to see whether the CP/CN pair (bit 0) or the DP/DN pair (bit 16) raised the alarm.
- r0459 — extended Sensor Module properties: the C/D signal level is only evaluated when bit 31 is set (r0459.31 = 1), i.e. when the Sensor Module properties are available.
- p0437 — extended Sensor Module configuration: monitoring of the signal level must be switched on here (p0437.31 = 1), otherwise the level is not evaluated at all.
Acknowledging and restarting
As an alarm, A32443 does not bring the drive into a different operating state and no acknowledgement is required; once the unipolar level is measured inside the tolerance again, the condition is gone. If the drive is configured to issue the same condition as a fault instead, that fault must be acknowledged immediately after the cause has been rectified.
