A07805Drive: Power unit overload I2t

What it means

A07805 is the thermal overload alarm of the power unit: the I2t image of the Power Module has exceeded the alarm threshold stored in p0294. The manuals print the code once for the drive side (“Drive: Power unit overload I2t”) and once for the infeed side (“Infeed: Power unit overload I2t”), but the monitored quantity is the same — the I2t load of the power unit. On the drive entries the cause text adds that the response parameterized in p0290 becomes active once the threshold is crossed; the infeed entries name only the exceeded threshold. Depending on the drive configuration, the same condition can also be issued without any reaction, and in that form it likewise requires no acknowledgement.

Why it appears

  • The alarm threshold for the power unit’s I2t overload, set in p0294, has been exceeded — the power unit is overloaded in its I2t thermal model.
  • On the drive objects, the manuals state that the response parameterized in p0290 then becomes active; the infeed entries mention only the exceeded p0294 threshold.

What to check

  1. Reduce the continuous load on the power unit.
  2. Adapt the load duty cycle — the G120C and G115D manuals phrase this as: adapt the load cycle.
  3. Check the assignment of the rated currents of the motor and Motor Module; this is the wording of the S120, S150, G130 and G150 manuals, while the G120, G120C, G120XA and G115D manuals say to check the assignment of the motor and power unit rated currents.
  4. Note: for the infeed variants of the S120, S150, G130 and G150, the manuals list only the first two measures.

Parameters the manual names

  • p0294 — power unit alarm threshold with I2t overload (“PU I2t alarm thr”): the value that the power unit’s I2t image has exceeded; this is the threshold behind A07805.
  • p0290 — power unit overload response (“PU overl response”): here the drive’s response to the overload is selected, and the configured response becomes active when the p0294 threshold is crossed on a drive object.

Acknowledging and restarting

A07805 needs no acknowledgement and no reset action: the drive clears the alarm itself, so nothing has to be acknowledged on the operator panel or in the commissioning tool. The practical task is to remove the overload — reduce the continuous load or stretch the load duty cycle as listed above — so that the condition that raised the alarm is gone.

What differs between the drive families

Questions technicians ask

What does alarm A07805 mean on a SINAMICS drive?

It reports that the I2t thermal image of the power unit has exceeded the alarm threshold set in p0294. On drive objects, the response parameterized in p0290 becomes active as a result.

Does A07805 stop the drive, and must it be acknowledged?

The alarm itself requires no acknowledgement and no reset. What happens after the threshold is crossed follows the response stored in p0290 on the drive objects.

How do I fix A07805 power unit overload I2t?

Reduce the continuous load and adapt the load duty cycle, then check that the rated currents of the motor and power unit are correctly assigned — on the S120, S150, G130 and G150 drive entries the manual names the Motor Module here.

Which parameters belong to A07805?

p0294, the power unit I2t alarm threshold that has been exceeded, and p0290, in which the overload response is parameterized.
