F33503Encoder 3: Position tracking cannot be reset

What it means

F33503 is raised when the drive cannot reset the position tracking of the measuring gear assigned to Encoder 3. Depending on how the drive is configured, the same condition can also be signalled as an alarm or as a message without any reaction instead of as a fault.

Why it appears

  • The position tracking of the measuring gear could not be reset by the drive.

What to check

  1. Select encoder commissioning by setting p0010 = 4.
  2. Reset the position tracking by setting p0411.2 = 1.
  3. Deselect encoder commissioning again by setting p0010 = 0.
  4. Acknowledge the fault and then adjust the absolute encoder.

Parameters the manual names

  • p0010 — the drive commissioning parameter filter: set it to 4 to enter encoder commissioning for the reset, then back to 0 to leave it again.
  • p0411 — the measuring gear configuration: set p0411.2 = 1 here to trigger the reset of the position tracking.

Acknowledging and restarting

After the commissioning steps are complete, the fault is cleared by acknowledgment: The fault should then be acknowledged and the absolute encoder adjusted. When the drive signals the condition only as an alarm or without any reaction, no acknowledgment is required.

What differs between the drive families

Questions technicians ask

What does fault F33503 mean in SINAMICS drives?

It is raised when the position tracking of the measuring gear assigned to Encoder 3 cannot be reset. Depending on the drive configuration, the same condition can also appear as an alarm or without any reaction.

How do I clear fault F33503?

Select encoder commissioning with p0010 = 4, reset the position tracking with p0411.2 = 1, and deselect encoder commissioning with p0010 = 0. The fault is then acknowledged and the absolute encoder adjusted.

Which parameters belong to fault F33503?

p0010 is the drive commissioning parameter filter and selects encoder commissioning. p0411 is the measuring gear configuration and carries the reset p0411.2.

Does F33503 have to be acknowledged?

As a fault it is acknowledged after the commissioning steps, together with the adjustment of the absolute encoder. In the alarm and no-reaction variants no acknowledgment is needed.
