F33501Encoder 3: Position tracking encoder position outside tolerance window

What it means

SINAMICS raises F33501 when the drive or encoder 3 was moved through a distance greater than the tolerance window parameterized for position tracking while the drive was switched off. As a result, the reference between the mechanical system and the encoder may no longer exist. The drive stores the deviation from the last encoder position as the fault value. Depending on the drive's configuration, the same condition can also be issued as an alarm or with no reaction instead of a fault.

Why it appears

  • While switched off, the drive/encoder was moved through a distance greater than the distance parameterized in the tolerance window.
  • It is possible that there is no longer any reference between the mechanical system and the encoder.

What to check

  1. Read the reported deviation: the fault value in r0949, interpreted as decimal. The sign designates the traversing direction; the deviation found is also displayed in r0477.
  2. Select encoder commissioning (p0010 = 4).
  3. Reset the position tracking (p0411.2 = 1).
  4. Deselect encoder commissioning (p0010 = 0).
  5. Acknowledge the fault and, if necessary, adjust the absolute encoder (p2507).

Reading the message value

  • The drive stores the deviation (difference) to the last encoder position as the fault value in r0949; interpret it as decimal.
  • The value is given in increments of the absolute value; the sign designates the traversing direction.
  • The deviation found is also displayed in r0477.

Parameters the manual names

  • p0413 — the position tracking tolerance window that the movement made while switched off exceeded.
  • r0949 — holds the fault value of this code; interpreted as decimal it is the deviation to the last encoder position, and its sign shows the traversing direction.
  • r0477 — displays the deviation found for this code in addition to r0949.
  • p0010 — set to 4 to select encoder commissioning before the reset, then back to 0 to deselect it.
  • p0411 — set p0411.2 = 1 to reset the position tracking.
  • p2507 — use to adjust the absolute encoder if that is necessary after acknowledging the fault.

Acknowledging and restarting

Once the position tracking has been reset (p0010 = 4, p0411.2 = 1, p0010 = 0), acknowledge the fault. If necessary, adjust the absolute encoder (p2507) afterwards.

Questions technicians ask

What does fault F33501 mean on SINAMICS?

While the drive was switched off, the drive or encoder 3 was moved through a distance greater than the parameterized tolerance window (p0413). The reference between the mechanical system and the encoder may therefore no longer exist.

How do I clear F33501?

Select encoder commissioning (p0010 = 4), reset the position tracking (p0411.2 = 1) and deselect encoder commissioning (p0010 = 0). Then acknowledge the fault and, if necessary, adjust the absolute encoder (p2507).

How far was encoder 3 moved?

The fault value in r0949, interpreted as decimal, gives the deviation to the last encoder position in increments of the absolute value; the sign designates the traversing direction. The same deviation is also displayed in r0477.

Can F33501 appear as an alarm instead of a fault?

Yes. Depending on the drive's configuration, the same condition can also be issued as an alarm or with no reaction instead of a fault.
