What it means
F33500 reports that encoder 3 has exceeded the traversing range its position tracking can follow: a linear axis is configured without modulo correction, and the drive or encoder has moved beyond the maximum possible traversing range. The value the drive holds at that moment is read in p0412 and is interpreted as the number of motor revolutions. Depending on how the drive is configured, the same condition can also be issued as an alarm (A) or with no reaction (N); as a fault the drive executes OFF1, with OFF2, OFF3 or no reaction as the alternatives shown in the table.
Why it appears
- A linear axis is configured without modulo correction, and the drive or encoder has exceeded the maximum possible traversing range.
- With p0411.0 = 1, the maximum traversing range of the configured linear axis is defined to be 64x (+/- 32x) of p0421.
- With p0411.3 = 1, the maximum traversing range is preset to the highest possible value, which is +/- p0412/2 rounded off to complete revolutions; the highest possible value depends on the pulse number in p0408 and the fine resolution in p0419.
What to check
- Select encoder commissioning by setting p0010 = 4.
- Reset the position tracking by setting p0411.2 = 1.
- Deselect encoder commissioning by setting p0010 = 0.
- Acknowledge the fault and adjust the absolute encoder.
Parameters the manual names
- p0010 (Drive commissioning parameter filter / Drv comm. par_filt): set to 4 to select encoder commissioning before the reset, and back to 0 to deselect it afterwards.
- p0411 (Measuring gear configuration / Meas gear config): set bit 2 to 1 to reset the position tracking; bits 0 and 3 select how the maximum traversing range is defined.
- p0412 (Measuring gear absolute encoder rotary revolutions virtual / Abs rot rev): read here how far the position tracking has run, counted in motor revolutions; with p0411.3 = 1 half of it also forms the traversing range.
- p0421 (Absolute encoder rotary multiturn resolution / Enc abs multiturn): with p0411.0 = 1 the traversing range is 64x (+/- 32x) of this multiturn resolution.
- p0408 (Rotary encoder pulse number / Rot enc pulse No.): together with p0419 it determines the highest possible traversing range.
- p0419 (Fine resolution absolute value Gx_XIST2 (in bits) / Enc fine Gx_XIST2): its fine resolution limits, together with p0408, the highest possible traversing range.
Acknowledging and restarting
After p0010 = 4, p0411.2 = 1 and p0010 = 0 have been set in that order, the fault is acknowledged — the message allows immediate acknowledgement — and the absolute encoder is adjusted. If the drive is configured to output this condition as an alarm (A) or with no reaction (N), there is no reaction and no acknowledgement.
The same on every family
Every manual that describes F33500 gives it the same reaction, acknowledgement and message class.
| Drive family | Reaction | Acknowledge | Message class | Component | Manual |

Questions technicians ask
What does fault F33500 mean on a SINAMICS drive?
The position tracking of encoder 3 has exceeded the maximum traversing range of a configured linear axis that works without modulo correction. The value in p0412 shows the position, interpreted as the number of motor revolutions.
How do I clear F33500?
Set p0010 = 4 to select encoder commissioning, reset the position tracking with p0411.2 = 1, then set p0010 back to 0. Acknowledge the fault and adjust the absolute encoder.
How large is the maximum traversing range for this code?
With p0411.0 = 1 it is 64x (+/- 32x) of p0421. With p0411.3 = 1 it is +/- p0412/2 rounded off to complete revolutions, and the highest possible value depends on p0408 and p0419.
Can F33500 also appear as an alarm?
Yes. Depending on the drive's configuration, the same condition can also be issued as an alarm (A) or with no reaction (N); in both cases there is no reaction and no acknowledgement.
