F32500Encoder 2: Position tracking traversing range exceeded

What it means

F32500 is raised when encoder 2's position tracking runs past the widest traversing range it can follow on a linear axis that is configured without modulo correction. The manual directs you to p0412, where the value is to be interpreted as a number of motor revolutions. Depending on the drive's configuration, the same condition can also be output as an alarm or without any reaction.

Why it appears

  • The axis is set up as a linear axis without modulo correction, and the drive/encoder has moved beyond the largest traversing range that position tracking can cover.
  • With p0411.0 = 1, the maximum traversing range of the configured linear axis is fixed at 64x (+/- 32x) of p0421.
  • With p0411.3 = 1, the maximum traversing range is preset to its highest possible value (the default) and amounts to +/-p0412/2, rounded to complete revolutions; how high this ceiling sits depends on the pulse number p0408 and the fine resolution p0419.

What to check

  1. Select encoder commissioning by setting p0010 = 4.
  2. Reset the position tracking by setting p0411.2 = 1.
  3. Leave encoder commissioning by setting p0010 back to 0.
  4. Acknowledge the fault, then adjust the absolute encoder.

Parameters the manual names

  • p0010 (drive commissioning parameter filter): set to 4 to enter encoder commissioning for the reset, and back to 0 to leave it again.
  • p0411 (measuring gear configuration): bit 0 fixes the range at 64x p0421, bit 3 selects the default maximum range, bit 2 performs the reset of the position tracking.
  • p0412 (measuring gear absolute encoder rotary revolutions virtual): read here to see the position as a number of motor revolutions; with p0411.3 = 1 half of it forms the maximum range.
  • p0421 (absolute encoder rotary multiturn resolution): with p0411.0 = 1 the permissible range is 64x (+/- 32x) of this value.
  • p0408 (rotary encoder pulse number): determines, together with p0419, the highest possible traversing range.
  • p0419 (fine resolution, in bits): the second factor, beside p0408, that sets the highest possible range.

Acknowledging and restarting

Once p0010 is back at 0, acknowledge the fault and then adjust the absolute encoder. Both manuals prescribe the identical sequence, and they give no further steps for this code.

Questions technicians ask

What does fault F32500 mean on a SINAMICS drive?

Encoder 2's position tracking has exceeded the maximum traversing range of a linear axis configured without modulo correction. The position involved can be read in p0412 as a number of motor revolutions.

How do I clear F32500?

Set p0010 = 4, reset the position tracking with p0411.2 = 1, set p0010 back to 0, then acknowledge the fault and adjust the absolute encoder.

How large is the traversing range that F32500 watches?

With p0411.0 = 1 it is 64x (+/- 32x) of p0421. With p0411.3 = 1 it defaults to the highest possible value of +/-p0412/2, which depends on the pulse number p0408 and the fine resolution p0419.

Can F32500 appear as an alarm instead of a fault?

Yes. The drive's configuration decides whether the condition is raised as a fault, shown as an alarm, or signalled with no reaction at all.
