What it means
F32117 reports an inversion error on Encoder 2. A square-wave encoder wired bipolar and double ended delivers the tracks A, B and R together with the inverted tracks A*, B* and R*; the drive raises this fault when the inverted tracks are not inverted relative to the non-inverted ones. Why it appears
- At the connected square-wave encoder (bipolar, double ended), the signals A*, B* and R* are not inverted relative to the signals A, B and R.
- For an SMC30 (only Article No. 6SL3055-0AA00-5CA0 and 6SL3055-0AA00-5CA1), a CUA32 or a CU310-2 / CU310: a square-wave encoder is used that has no track R although track monitoring (p0405.2 = 1) is switched on.
What to check
- Check the encoder and its cable.
- Confirm that the encoder outputs each signal together with its inverted counterpart — A with A*, B with B*, R with R*.
- On an SMC30 of Article No. 6SL3055-0AA00-5CA0 or 6SL3055-0AA00-5CA1, check the setting of p0405: p0405.2 = 1 is only permissible when the encoder is wired to X520.
- If the encoder has no track R, set the jumpers the manual requires for the connection at X520 (SMC30), X220 (CUA32) or X23 (CU310-2, CU310): bridge pin 10 (reference signal R) with pin 7 (encoder power supply, ground) and pin 11 (reference signal R inverted) with pin 4 (encoder power supply).
Reading the message value
The drive writes the fault cause into r0949; interpret the value in binary:
- Bits 0 ... 15: Only for internal Siemens troubleshooting.
- Bit 16: Error track A.
- Bit 17: Error track B.
- Bit 18: Error track R.

- r0949 — fault value: read it in binary for this fault; bit 16, bit 17 or bit 18 tells you whether the inversion error is on track A, B or R.
