F32116Encoder 2: Amplitude error monitoring track A + B

What it means

F32116 is raised for Encoder 2 when the rectified encoder signals A and B no longer carry the amplitude the drive expects. On G130 and G150 (VECTOR_G) the monitoring watches both the amplitudes of tracks A and B and the amplitude taken from the root of A² + B²; the fault appears when these leave the tolerance bandwidth. On S120 and S150 the same code is described as the signal level of tracks A or B falling below the permissible limit.

The nominal signal level of the encoder must lie in the range 375 mV to 600 mV (500 mV −25/+20 %). The drive responds when the level drops below 130 mV; on G130/G150 it also responds when the level exceeds 955 mV. Depending on the drive configuration, the same condition can also be issued as an alarm (A) or with no reaction (N).

The message value shows the signal level of each track in the form “A track: %1, B-track: %2”. When the fault is active, the drive executes its stop response and the message must be acknowledged immediately before the drive will start again.

Note: The analog values of the amplitude error are not measured at the same time with the hardware fault output by the Sensor Module.

Why it appears

  • The amplitude of the rectified encoder signals A and B and the amplitude from the root of A² + B² are not within the tolerance bandwidth (G130/G150, VECTOR_G).
  • The signal level of the rectified encoder signals A and B falls below the permissible limit value of 130 mV (S120/S150, HLA, SERVO and VECTOR drive objects).

What to check

  1. Read the fault value in r0949: the hexadecimal value shows the measured signal level of each track, so you can see whether track A, track B or both are out of range.
  2. Check that the encoder cables and shielding are routed in compliance with EMC.
  3. Check the plug connections.
  4. Replace the encoder or the encoder cable.
  5. Check the Sensor Module, e.g. its contacts.

Reading the message value

The drive stores the two track levels in r0949, interpreted hexadecimal, as one value yyyyxxxx hex:

  • yyyy = Signal level, track B (16 bits with sign)
  • xxxx = Signal level, track A (16 bits with sign)

A signal level of 500 mV peak value corresponds to the numerical value 5333 hex = 21299 dec.

Acknowledging and restarting

F32116 must be acknowledged immediately; only after the acknowledgement can the drive be taken back into operation.
