What it means
F07601 — Encoder 3: Adjustment not possible. The drive cannot carry out the adjustment of Encoder 3 because the position range overflows: the maximum encoder value multiplied by the factor that converts the absolute position (r0483 and/or r2723) from increments to length units (LU) exceeds the value range (-2147483648 ... 2147483647) available for displaying the position actual value. The same condition can also be output as an alarm; whether the drive signals it as a fault or as an alarm depends on the drive configuration.
Why it appears
- The maximum encoder value multiplied by the factor that converts the absolute position (r0483 and/or r2723) from increments to length units (LU) has exceeded the value range (-2147483648 ... 2147483647) for displaying the position actual value.
- Because of this overflow the adjustment of the encoder cannot be made — the maximum possible absolute position (LU) lies above 4294967296.
What to check
- Determine the encoder configuration actually used — rotary or linear encoder, motor or direct encoder, with or without position tracking — and calculate the maximum possible absolute position (LU):
- Rotary encoder, motor encoder without position tracking: p2506 * p0433 * p2505 / (p0432 * p2504); for multiturn encoders p2506 * p0433 * p2505 * p0421 / (p0432 * p2504).
- Rotary encoder, motor encoder with position tracking for measuring gear: p2506 * p0412 * p2505 / p2504.
- Rotary encoder, motor encoder with position tracking for load gear: p2506 * p2721 * p0433 / p0432.
- Rotary encoder, motor encoder with position tracking for load and measuring gear: p2506 * p2721.
- Rotary encoder, direct encoder without position tracking: p2506 * p0433 / p0432; for multiturn encoders p2506 * p0433 * p0421 / p0432.
- Rotary encoder, direct encoder with position tracking for measuring gear: p2506 * p0412.
- Compare the result with the limit:
If the value for the maximum possible absolute position (LU) is greater than 4294967296, then it is not possible to make an adjustment due to an overflow.
- For a linear encoder, check that the condition p0407 * p2503 / (2^p0419 * 10^7) <= 1.0 is maintained.
Reading the message value
- Drive data set: %1 — the message value contains the number of the drive data set to which the message refers.
Parameters the manual names
- r0483 — encoder actual position value in increments; one of the two absolute position signals named in the cause whose conversion into length units (LU) overflows.
- r2723 — absolute value of the load gear; the second absolute position signal to which the conversion from increments to LU applies.
- p2506 — LU per load path; the factor with which every formula for the maximum possible absolute position (LU) of a rotary encoder begins.
- p0433 — gearbox factor motor/load revolutions; numerator factor in the formulas for motor and direct encoders without position tracking and in the formula with load-gear position tracking.
- p2505 — motor/load load revolutions; factor in the motor-encoder formulas without position tracking and with measuring-gear position tracking.
- p0432 — gearbox factor encoder revolutions; denominator factor in the same formulas as p0433.
- p2504 — motor/load motor distance; denominator factor in the motor-encoder formulas without position tracking and with measuring-gear position tracking.
- p0421 — absolute encoder rotary multiturn resolution; additional factor in the multiturn variants of the formulas without position tracking.
- p0412 — measuring gear absolute encoder rotary revolutions virtual; used instead of the gearbox chain when position tracking for the measuring gear is active, for the motor encoder as well as the direct encoder.
- p2721 — load gear rotary absolute encoder revolutions virtual; factor in the formulas with position tracking for the load gear, alone or together with the measuring gear.
- p0407 — linear encoder grid division; enters the linear-encoder condition together with p2503 and p0419.
- p2503 — LU per 10 mm; enters the linear-encoder condition.
- p0419 — fine resolution of the absolute value in bits; enters the linear-encoder condition as 2^p0419.
Acknowledging and restarting
Acknowledge the fault immediately. The drive responds with OFF1, so it stops and must be acknowledged before it will start again. When the same condition is output as an alarm, it causes no reaction and requires no acknowledgement. The fault comes back as long as the maximum possible absolute position (LU) still exceeds the permitted value range, i.e. as long as the encoder data remains unchanged.

Questions technicians ask
What does fault F07601 mean in SINAMICS drives?
It means that the adjustment of Encoder 3 is not possible: the maximum encoder value multiplied by the factor converting the absolute position (r0483 and/or r2723) from increments to length units (LU) exceeds the value range (-2147483648 ... 2147483647) for displaying the position actual value.
How can I fix F07601?
Calculate the maximum possible absolute position (LU) with the formula that matches your encoder configuration. If the value is greater than 4294967296, the adjustment cannot be made because of an overflow; for a linear encoder, p0407 * p2503 / (2^p0419 * 10^7) must be <= 1.0.
Which parameters are involved in F07601?
For rotary encoders, the formulas combine p2506 with p0433, p2505, p0432, p2504 and, for multiturn encoders, p0421; with position tracking, p0412 (measuring gear) and p2721 (load gear) are used. For a linear encoder, the condition is formed from p0407, p2503 and p0419.
Does F07601 also appear as an alarm, and how is it acknowledged?
Yes, the same condition can also be output as an alarm, depending on the drive configuration. As an alarm it causes no reaction and needs no acknowledgement, while the fault is acknowledged immediately.
