What it means
F07331 is raised when the drive is commanded on while the motor is still turning, so a flying restart would be needed — but the selected configuration does not support the "flying restart" function. The manual states: It is not possible to power up with the motor rotating (no flying restart).
The fault carries the same meaning on the G120, G120XA, G130, G150, S120 and S150; which motor and control-mode combinations are unsupported differs slightly between the manuals and is listed below.
Why it appears
- The motor is still rotating when the drive attempts to power up, and the "flying restart" function is not supported for the current combination of motor and control mode.
- Permanent-magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) operated with U/f characteristic.
- PMSM in encoderless operation without a Voltage Sensing Module (VSM) being connected — named in the manuals for the G130/G150 and S120/S150.
- Separately excited synchronous motor (SESM) operated with U/f characteristic (G130/G150 and S120/S150).
- For the G120 and G120XA the manual names PMSM operation with U/f characteristic and sensorless vector control as the unsupported cases.
What to check
- Deactivate the "flying restart" function by setting p1200 = 0. This is the remedy all of the manuals give; the drive can then only be powered up when the motor is at standstill.
- If flying restart must remain possible, change the open-loop/closed-loop control mode in p1300 — the G130/G150 and S120/S150 manuals list this as an alternative.
- For encoderless PMSM operation, connect a Voltage Sensing Module (VSM) for voltage measurement (G130/G150 and S120/S150).
Parameters the manual names
- p1200 (Flying restart operating mode): set it to 0 to deactivate the flying restart function and clear this fault.
- p1300 (Open-loop/closed-loop control operating mode): change it if flying restart is to remain active — the current mode is one of the unsupported combinations; named in the G130/G150 and S120/S150 remedy.
Acknowledging and restarting
The fault must be acknowledged immediately before the drive will restart; when it trips, the drive coasts down (OFF2). Once the unsupported combination has been removed — flying restart deactivated with p1200 = 0, or the control mode (p1300) / voltage measurement (VSM) changed as listed above — acknowledge the fault and switch the drive on again. While the function remains unsupported, every power-up with the motor rotating raises this fault again; with p1200 = 0, power up only with the motor at standstill.

Questions technicians ask
What does fault F07331 mean on a SINAMICS drive?
A flying restart was requested — the drive was switched on while the motor was still rotating — but the flying restart function is not supported for the selected motor and control mode, so the drive cannot power up.
How do I fix SINAMICS fault F07331?
Set p1200 = 0 to deactivate the flying restart function, then acknowledge the fault. Where the manual lists it, you can instead change the control mode in p1300 or, for encoderless PMSM operation, connect a Voltage Sensing Module (VSM).
Why does F07331 occur with a permanent-magnet synchronous motor (PMSM)?
With a PMSM the flying restart function is not supported with U/f operation; on the G120 and G120XA also with sensorless vector control, and on the G130/G150 and S120/S150 in encoderless operation without a connected VSM.
Can flying restart stay active when F07331 appears?
Only if the configuration is changed accordingly: the manuals for the G130/G150 and S120/S150 list changing the open-loop/closed-loop control mode (p1300) or connecting a VSM for voltage measurement as remedies.
