F01005File upload/download error

What it means

F01005 is raised when a file transfer to a component did not complete. The manuals describe the code in two forms. On G130, G150, S120 and S150 a firmware download to a DRIVE-CLiQ component was unsuccessful. On G120 and G120XA the upload or download of EEPROM data was unsuccessful. The fault value in r0949 names the component that was addressed and the reason why the transfer failed. Note that the same fault cause number can mean different things in the two forms, so read the value together with the list below.

Why it appears

  • The firmware or EEPROM file is missing on the memory card, or the file stored there is defective.
  • The component rejected the file or could not verify it — a checksum error, file contents it will not accept, or a checksum check it could not finish in time.
  • The firmware version does not fit: too old, or not suitable for the hardware release of the component (DRIVE-CLiQ variant).
  • The component did not respond after several communication attempts, or did not enter the download mode, so the existing firmware could not be deleted.
  • The transfer was interrupted or lost the connection to the firmware file — for example during a project download/reset on a SINAMICS Integrated Control Unit.
  • The component number addressed does not exist: no component is available with the number set in p7828. On G120 and G120XA additionally an internal access error in the power unit component, or a function that this SW or HW does not support.

What to check

For the firmware download to a DRIVE-CLiQ component:

  1. Check the component number selected in p7828.
  2. Check the DRIVE-CLiQ wiring.
  3. Save a suitable firmware file on the memory card in the directory /siemens/sinamics/code/sac/.
  4. Use a component with a suitable hardware version.
  5. Carry out POWER ON again for the DRIVE-CLiQ component and download the firmware again; depending on p7826 it is then downloaded automatically.

For the EEPROM transfer on G120 and G120XA:

  1. Save a suitable firmware file or EEPROM file for the upload or download in the folder /ee_sac/ on the memory card.

Reading the message value

The drive writes the fault value to r0949, to be interpreted hexadecimal: the upper part holds the component number, the lower part the fault cause. The lower value means different things depending on which transfer failed.

Firmware download to a DRIVE-CLiQ component (G130, G150, S120, S150):

  • 11 — checksum error detected by the component.
  • 15 — the component rejected the contents of the firmware file.
  • 18 — the firmware version is too old.
  • 19 — the firmware version does not suit the hardware release of the component.
  • 101 — no response from the component after several communication attempts.
  • 139 — a new boot loader was loaded first; POWER ON must be repeated.
  • 140 — the firmware file is not on the memory card.
  • 141 — an inconsistent file length was signaled; the connection to the firmware file may have been lost, for example during a project download/reset on a SINAMICS Integrated Control Unit.
  • 143 — the component did not enter the download mode; the existing firmware could not be deleted.
  • 144 — a checksum fault was found in the downloaded firmware; the file on the memory card may be defective.
  • 145 — the component did not complete the checksum check in the appropriate time.
  • 156 — no component is available with the number set in p7828.
  • Other values are reserved for internal Siemens troubleshooting.

EEPROM upload/download with the power unit (G120, G120XA):

  • 11 — a checksum error in the power unit component.
  • 15 — the power unit does not accept the EEPROM file contents.
  • 17 — an internal access error in the power unit component.
  • 18 — no response from the power unit component after several communication attempts.
  • 140 — the EEPROM file is not on the memory card.
  • 141 — an inconsistent file length was signaled; the transfer was possibly interrupted.
  • 144 — a checksum fault in the loaded file; the file on the memory card may be defective.
  • 146 — the selected function is not supported by this SW or HW.
  • 156 — no component is available with the number set in p7828.

Parameters the manual names

  • r0949 — fault value: read it hexadecimal, the upper part as component number and the lower part as the fault cause of F01005.
  • p7828 — firmware download component number: check here which component the download addressed when the fault cause is 156.
  • p7826 — FW update automatic: after POWER ON this decides whether the firmware is downloaded automatically.

Acknowledging and restarting

Acknowledge the fault immediately. If the fault cause is 139, a new boot loader is loaded first — carry out POWER ON again and repeat the download. Depending on p7826, the firmware is downloaded automatically after POWER ON.

Questions technicians ask

What does fault F01005 mean on a SINAMICS drive?

A file transfer to a component did not complete: on G130, G150, S120 and S150 a firmware download to a DRIVE-CLiQ component, on G120 and G120XA the upload or download of EEPROM data with the power unit.

How do I find the reason for F01005?

Read the fault value in r0949 hexadecimal — the upper part is the component number, the lower part the fault cause. Match it against the list on this page, because the same number means different things for the two transfer types.

F01005 with fault cause 140 — what now?

The firmware file (DRIVE-CLiQ variant) or EEPROM file (G120, G120XA) is not on the memory card. Save a suitable file there — /siemens/sinamics/code/sac/ for the firmware download, /ee_sac/ for the EEPROM transfer — and repeat it.

How do I clear F01005?

Remove the cause the fault value points to, then acknowledge the fault immediately. With fault cause 139 carry out POWER ON again and repeat the download; depending on p7826 it then runs automatically.
