What it means
C01700 is a Safety Integrated (SI) message of the drive's motion monitoring: the drive has been brought to a standstill with a STOP A. On the versions in which the safety motion functions run in the Control Unit (G130, G150, S120, S150), the manual describes this stop as STO via the safety switch-off signal path of the Control Unit; on the G120, as pulses suppressed via the safety switch-off signal path of processor 1. A STOP A is frequently only the follow-on reaction to another safety message, so the underlying code must be found and cleared before the drive can run again. In the abbreviations used by the manual, SAM stands for Safe Acceleration Monitor and SBR for Safe Brake Ramp.
Why it appears
- A stop request came from the second monitoring channel; on the G120, from processor 2.
- After a test stop was selected, STO did not become active within the parameterized time p9557 (on the G120 the manual words this as: the pulses were not suppressed after test stop selection).
- The message is a subsequent response to another SI message: C01706 (SAM/SBR limit exceeded), C01714 (Safely-Limited Speed exceeded) or C01701 (STOP B initiated); on the Control-Unit versions, C01715 (Safely-Limited Position exceeded) and C01716 (tolerance for safe motion direction exceeded) are also listed as triggers.
What to check
- Remove the cause of the fault on the second monitoring channel — on the G120, on the monitoring channel of processor 2.
- Because C01700 is often only a subsequent response, carry out a diagnostics routine for the underlying message: C01706, C01714 and C01701 on every version, and additionally C01715 and C01716 on the Control-Unit versions.
- Check the value in p9557 (where available); increase it if necessary and then carry out a POWER ON.
- Check the switch-off signal path of the Control Unit, including the DRIVE-CLiQ communication if it has been implemented; on the G120, check the switch-off signal path of processor 1.
- If the message persists, replace the Motor Module, Power Module or Hydraulic Module (on the G120: replace the Power Module), and finally replace the Control Unit.

Acknowledging and restarting
The drive coasts down (OFF2) and will only restart once the message has been acknowledged — immediately, and normally with a POWER ON. The manual states: This message can be acknowledged without a POWER ON as follows (safe acknowledgment)
— via a Terminal Module 54F (TM54F), via the onboard F-DI (only CU310-2), via PROFIsafe or via the machine control panel. On the G120, the acknowledgment without POWER ON is performed with Acknowledge internal event
. Acknowledging only clears the message; its cause — often one of the other safety codes — must also be removed.
