YORK YMC2 — WARNING - EXCESS SURGE DETECTED

The panel shows WARNING - EXCESS SURGE DETECTED. The manuals print this message in a single form only; there are no other variants. It is a warning, not a safety shutdown: the chiller continues to run under the same conditions while the message is displayed. The message stays on the display until it is manually reset.

The Surge Window Count has exceeded the Count Limit. Both manuals state that this warning applies only if the Surge Protection SHUTDOWN feature is Disabled — that is the mode in which an excess surge condition is signalled by this warning while the chiller keeps running. If the Shutdown setpoint is Enabled, an excess surge condition performs a safety shutdown instead of showing this warning.

• The Surge Window Count has exceeded the Count Limit.
• The Surge Protection SHUTDOWN feature is Disabled: the warning is defined only for this mode, since with the feature Enabled an excess surge condition produces a safety shutdown instead.

• Surge Protection SHUTDOWN — the feature (also referred to as the Shutdown setpoint) that decides how an excess surge condition is handled: Enabled, it performs a safety shutdown; Disabled, the chiller keeps running and this warning is displayed.
• Count Limit — the threshold the Surge Window Count is compared against. The warning can be cleared only once the count is less than or equal to it; the manuals give no numeric value for it in the description of this warning.

The warning does not clear by itself; it displays until a manual reset. Clearing is possible once any one of the following is true: the Surge Window Count is less than or equal to the Count Limit, the Surge Protection SHUTDOWN feature is Enabled, or the chiller is stopped. Then: To clear message press WARNING RESET button on HOME Screen when logged in at OPERATOR (or higher) access level. The operation manual names the same control the Warning Reset key and ties the reset to the operator access level.
