F33161Encoder 3: Analog sensor channel B failed

What it means

F33161 (Encoder 3: Analog sensor channel B failed) is raised when the drive detects that the input voltage of the analog sensor wired as Encoder 3 is outside the permissible limits. The list manuals for the S120/S150 and for the G130/G150 describe this code with the same cause and the same remedy, so the behaviour is the same whichever of these converters you are standing at. Depending on the drive configuration, the same condition can also be signalled as an alarm or as a message without any reaction; in both of those variants no reaction takes place and no acknowledgement is required.

Why it appears

  • The input voltage of the analog sensor connected on Encoder 3 is outside the permissible limits.

What to check

  1. Read the fault value in r0949 as a decimal number to identify which of the three conditions tripped the fault.
  2. Fault value 1: check the output voltage of the analog sensor.
  3. Fault value 2: check the voltage setting for each encoder period (p4675).
  4. Fault value 3: check the range limit setting and increase it if necessary (p4676).

Reading the message value

The message value carries the fault value, which the drive also holds in r0949; interpret it as a decimal number:

  • 1 — the input voltage is outside the detectable measuring range.
  • 2 — the input voltage is outside the selected measuring range (p4675).
  • 3 — the absolute value of the input voltage has exceeded the range limit (p4676).

Parameters the manual names

  • r0949 — displays the fault value of this code; read it as a decimal number to see whether condition 1, 2 or 3 applies.
  • p4675 — analog sensor channel B voltage per encoder period; check this setting when the fault value is 2.
  • p4676 — analog sensor range limit threshold; check it and increase it if necessary when the fault value is 3.

Acknowledging and restarting

As a fault, F33161 keeps the power pulses inhibited until it is acknowledged, so remove the cause and then acknowledge the fault before restarting the drive. When the drive signals the same condition as an alarm or without any reaction, neither a reaction nor an acknowledgement applies.

What differs between the drive families

Questions technicians ask

What does SINAMICS fault F33161 mean?

It means the input voltage of the analog sensor connected as Encoder 3 is outside the permissible limits on channel B. The decimal fault value in r0949 tells you which of the three limits was violated.

How do I fix F33161?

Follow the fault value in r0949: for 1 check the output voltage of the analog sensor, for 2 check the voltage per encoder period (p4675), and for 3 check the range limit (p4676) and increase it if necessary.

Why does my drive report F33161 but not stop?

The same condition can also be issued as an alarm or as a message without any reaction, depending on the configuration. In those variants no reaction occurs and no acknowledgement is needed.

Which parameters belong to F33161?

r0949 shows the fault value, p4675 sets the channel B voltage per encoder period and p4676 sets the range limit threshold.
