F33152Encoder 3: Max. signal frequency (track A/B) exceeded

What it means

F33152 means that the pulse frequency arriving from Encoder 3 has exceeded the maximum the encoder evaluation can process. On S120/S150 the manual titles the condition "Encoder 3: Max. signal frequency (track A/B) exceeded", on G130/G150 "Encoder 3: Maximum input frequency exceeded" — both describe the same situation on the Sensor Module Encoder 3: the signal frequency of track A/B at the encoder input is too high. The frequency actually present at the moment of the fault is stored in the fault value r0949 (interpret decimal) in Hz. Depending on how the drive is configured, the same condition can also be signalled only as an alarm (A) or without any reaction (N) instead of as this fault.

Why it appears

  • The maximum signal frequency (maximum input frequency) of the encoder evaluation has been exceeded, i.e. the pulses coming in on track A/B of Encoder 3 are faster than the evaluation can process.

What to check

  1. Read the fault value r0949 (interpret decimal): it shows the actual input frequency in Hz at the moment the fault occurred.
  2. Reduce the speed so that the encoder signal frequency stays below the maximum of the encoder evaluation.
  3. If the speed cannot be reduced, use an encoder with a lower pulse number and enter this pulse number in p0408.

Reading the message value

  • The message value (%1) and the fault value r0949 (interpret decimal) contain the actual input frequency in Hz.

Parameters the manual names

  • p0408 — rotary encoder pulse number: set here is the pulse number of the encoder connected as Encoder 3; changing to an encoder with a lower pulse number and entering it in p0408 is part of the remedy for this fault.
  • r0949 — fault value: read it as a decimal number to see the actual input frequency in Hz that triggered F33152.

Acknowledging and restarting

The drive reacts with OFF1 and the fault must be acknowledged; acknowledgement is possible once the pulse inhibit is active (PULSE INHIBIT). Remove the cause first — reduce the speed or fit an encoder with a lower pulse number (p0408) — then acknowledge the fault and restart the drive. When the drive signals the same condition only as an alarm or with no reaction, the drive specifies neither a reaction nor an acknowledgement for it.

What differs between the drive families

Questions technicians ask

What does fault F33152 mean on a SINAMICS drive?

The signal frequency of Encoder 3 has exceeded the maximum that the encoder evaluation can process. The actual input frequency in Hz at the moment of the fault is stored in r0949.

How do I fix fault F33152?

Reduce the speed, or use an encoder with a lower pulse number and set it in p0408. Then acknowledge the fault once the pulse inhibit is active.

Can F33152 also appear as an alarm?

Yes. Depending on the drive configuration, the same condition can be reported as an alarm (A) or with no reaction (N), in which case no shutdown and no acknowledgement apply.

Which parameter belongs to fault F33152?

p0408, the rotary encoder pulse number — the remedy is to use an encoder with a lower pulse number and enter it there. The fault value is read from r0949.
