F33160Encoder 3: Analog sensor channel A failed

What it means

Channel A of the analog sensor connected as Encoder 3 has failed: the drive measures an input voltage at this channel that lies outside the permissible limits, so no usable measurement is available from the channel. Depending on how the drive is configured, the same condition can also be output as an alarm (A) or without any reaction (N); for both alternatives the manual specifies no reaction and no acknowledgement.

Why it appears

  • The input voltage of the analog sensor is outside the permissible limits.
  • Fault value 1: the input voltage is outside the detectable measuring range.
  • Fault value 2: the input voltage is outside the measuring range set in p4673 (the voltage per encoder period).
  • Fault value 3: the absolute value of the input voltage has exceeded the range limit p4676.

What to check

  1. Read the fault value in r0949 (interpret it as a decimal number) to see which of the three limits was violated.
  2. For fault value = 1: check the output voltage of the analog sensor.
  3. For fault value = 2: check the voltage setting for each encoder period (p4673).
  4. For fault value = 3: check the range limit setting and increase it if necessary (p4676).

Reading the message value

The drive stores the fault value in r0949; interpret the value as a decimal number.

  • 1 — input voltage outside the detectable measuring range.
  • 2 — input voltage outside the measuring range set in p4673.
  • 3 — the absolute value of the input voltage has exceeded the range limit (p4676).

Parameters the manual names

  • r0949 — fault value: read here, as a decimal number, which of the three conditions (1, 2 or 3) raised the fault.
  • p4673 — analog sensor channel A voltage per encoder period: check this setting when the fault value is 2.
  • p4676 — analog sensor range limit threshold: check this setting, and increase it if necessary, when the fault value is 3.

Acknowledging and restarting

The fault trips OFF1 and can only be acknowledged when pulses are inhibited: bring the drive to a standstill so that the pulse inhibit is active, then acknowledge the fault — after that the drive can be switched on again. When the condition is configured as an alarm or without any reaction, neither a reaction nor an acknowledgement applies.

Questions technicians ask

What does fault F33160 mean on a SINAMICS drive?

Channel A of the analog sensor on Encoder 3 has failed: the input voltage of the sensor is outside the permissible limits, so the channel delivers no usable measurement.

How do I find out which limit was violated in F33160?

Read the fault value in r0949 as a decimal number: 1 means outside the detectable measuring range, 2 outside the measuring range set in p4673, and 3 that the absolute value exceeded the range limit p4676.

How is fault F33160 reset?

The drive stops with OFF1 and the fault can only be acknowledged when pulses are inhibited — bring the drive to a standstill, acknowledge the fault, and then switch the drive on again.

Are F33160 and F33161 the same fault?

No: F33160 concerns channel A of the analog sensor on Encoder 3, while F33161 is the corresponding message for channel B.
