What it means
The message Drive: Speed controller optimization (oscillation test)
is raised when the vibration test of the speed controller optimization cannot be completed without a fault. The drive writes the reason into r0949 as a decimal fault value; six values are possible, and each one identifies a different failed step with its own remedy. The oscillation test is one step of the rotating measurement that is set up in p1959.
Why it appears
- A fault occurred during the vibration test; the decimal value stored in r0949 shows which of the six checks of the test failed.
What to check
- Fault value 1 (the speed did not settle): compare the entered rating plate data with the motor and correct the motor parameters; verify the moment of inertia entries p0341 and p0342. After each change recalculate with p0340 = 3. If the fault persists, run a motor data identification routine via p1910 and, where needed, lower the dynamic factor p1967 to below 25 %.
- Fault value 2 (minimum limiting active): the test setpoint cannot be approached — move the speed setpoint of the test (p1965) or adapt the minimum limit p1080.
- Fault value 3 (suppression bandwidth active): move the setpoint (p1965) out of the suppression (skip) bandwidths p1091 ... p1094 and p1101, or adapt those bandwidths.
- Fault value 4 (maximum limiting active): adapt the speed setpoint (p1965) or the maximum limits p1082, p1083 and p1086.
- Fault value 5: the torque limits are too low for the applied torque step — increase them, for example p1520 and p1521.
- Fault value 6: no suitable speed controller setting was found — reduce the dynamic factor p1967. If this does not help, disable the vibration test by writing p1959.4 = 0 and repeat the rotating measurement.
Reading the message value
- 1: The speed did not reach a steady-state condition.
- 2: The speed setpoint was not able to be approached as the minimum limiting is active.
- 3: The speed setpoint was not able to be approached as the suppression (skip) bandwidth is active.
- 4: The speed setpoint was not able to be approached as the maximum limiting is active.
- 5: Torque limits too low for a torque step.
- 6: No suitable speed controller setting was found.
Parameters the manual names
- r0949 — holds the fault value of this message; read it as a decimal number to see which of the six checks failed.
- p0340 — set to 3 to recalculate the motor and control parameters after you correct the rating plate data or the inertia entries (fault value 1).
- p0341 — motor moment of inertia; verify this entry when fault value 1 is present.
- p0342 — ratio of total to motor moment of inertia; check it together with p0341 for fault value 1.
- p1910 — selects the motor data identification routine to be carried out for fault value 1.
- p1965 — speed setpoint used by the optimization; move it when the setpoint cannot be approached (fault values 2, 3 and 4).
- p1967 — dynamic factor of the optimization; reduce it below 25 % for fault value 1 and reduce it for fault value 6.
- p1080 — minimum speed; adapt it when the minimum limiting blocks the setpoint (fault value 2).
- p1091 ... p1094, p1101 — skip speeds and skip bandwidth; clear the setpoint from this suppression range (fault value 3).
- p1082, p1083, p1086 — maximum speed and the speed limits in positive and negative direction of rotation; adapt them for fault value 4.
- p1520, p1521 — upper and lower torque limits; increase them when the torque step cannot be executed (fault value 5).
- p1959 — rotating measurement configuration; writing p1959.4 = 0 disables the vibration test (fault value 6).
Acknowledging and restarting
Once the parameter changes belonging to the stored fault value are complete, acknowledge the message and restart the speed controller optimization. The oscillation test belongs to the rotating measurement whose configuration is held in p1959.

Questions technicians ask
What does fault value 1 of F07985 tell me?
The speed did not reach a steady-state condition during the vibration test. Check the motor rating plate data and the moments of inertia (p0341, p0342), recalculate with p0340 = 3, run the motor data identification (p1910) and reduce p1967 below 25 % if required.
Why can the test setpoint not be reached?
Fault values 2, 3 and 4 all mean the setpoint collides with an active limit — the minimum limit (p1080), a suppression (skip) bandwidth (p1091 ... p1094, p1101) or the maximum limits (p1082, p1083 and p1086). Move the setpoint (p1965) or adapt the limit concerned.
Can the oscillation test be switched off?
Yes. For fault value 6 the remedy is to disable the vibration test with p1959.4 = 0 and repeat the rotating measurement.
How do I see which step of the test failed?
Read the fault value in r0949 as a decimal number. Values 1 to 6 each name a different failed check of the oscillation test.
