F07983Drive: Rotating measurement saturation characteristic

What it means

F07983 is raised when the rotating measurement of the saturation characteristic fails. In this commissioning step the motor rotates while the drive records the saturation characteristic, and the routine continuously monitors whether the measurement is proceeding correctly. As soon as a monitored condition is violated, the routine aborts and the fault is raised. The drive stores the reason as a number from 1 to 10 in the fault value; r0949 shows it and it must be read as a decimal figure. Every number has its own correction path, so read the fault value before changing any parameter.

Why it appears

  • The rotating measurement aborted while the saturation characteristic was being determined, because one of its monitored conditions was not met — the concrete reason is the fault value listed below.

What to check

  1. Read the fault value in r0949 as a decimal number; all following steps depend on it.
  2. Fault value 1: the overall inertia of the drive (p0341, p0342) is far greater than that of the motor alone. Switch the rotating measurement off (p1960), enter the moment of inertia in p0342, recalculate the speed controller with p0340 = 4 and repeat the measurement.
  3. Fault values 1 and 2: increase the measuring speed in p1961 and repeat the measurement.
  4. Fault values 1 to 4: check the motor parameters against the rating plate and the moments of inertia p0341 and p0342; after each correction recalculate with p0340 = 3. Also run a motor data identification (p1910) and, if required, lower the dynamic factor p1967 below 25 %.
  5. Fault value 5: field weakening is active because the speed setpoint in p1961 is set too high — reduce the speed.
  6. Fault value 6: adapt the speed setpoint (p1961) or the minimum speed (p1080).
  7. Fault value 7: adapt the speed setpoint (p1961) or the suppression (skip) bandwidths (p1091 ... p1094, p1101).
  8. Fault value 8: adapt the speed setpoint (p1961) or the maximum limits (p1082, p1083 and p1086).
  9. Fault values 9 and 10: the operating point had too high a load torque. Move to a more suitable operating point via the speed setpoint p1961 or reduce the load torque; the torque must stay constant throughout the whole measurement.

Reading the message value

  • 1 — the speed did not settle to a steady-state condition.
  • 2 — the rotor flux did not settle to a steady-state condition.
  • 3 — the adaptation circuit did not settle to a steady-state condition.
  • 4 — the adaptation circuit was not enabled.
  • 5 — field weakening was active.
  • 6 — the speed setpoint could not be reached because the minimum limiting is active.
  • 7 — the speed setpoint could not be reached because a suppression (skip) bandwidth is active.
  • 8 — the speed setpoint could not be reached because the maximum limiting is active.
  • 9 — several of the determined values were implausible.
  • 10 — the load torque was too high for the characteristic to be sensibly determined.

Parameters the manual names

  • r0949 — holds the fault value of this fault; read it as a decimal to identify the abort reason.
  • p1961 — the speed setpoint of the measurement; raised for values 1–2, reduced for value 5, and adapted against limits for values 6–8.
  • p1960 — selects the rotating measurement; switched off in the value 1 remedy before the moment of inertia is entered by hand.
  • p0341 / p0342 — motor moment of inertia and its ratio to the total drive inertia; checked for values 1–4, with p0342 entered manually for value 1.
  • p0340 — recalculates motor and control parameters: value 3 after correcting motor data or inertias, value 4 for the speed-controller recalculation in the value 1 remedy.
  • p1910 — starts the motor data identification run for values 1–4.
  • p1967 — dynamic factor of the speed controller optimization; reduced below 25 % if required for values 1–4.
  • p1080 — minimum speed, adapted when it blocks the measuring speed (value 6).
  • p1091 ... p1094, p1101 — skip speeds and their bandwidth, adapted when a skip band covers the measuring speed (value 7).
  • p1082, p1083, p1086 — maximum and directional speed limits, adapted for value 8.
  • p1959 — rotating measurement configuration; bit p1959.1 disables the saturation characteristic identification entirely.

Acknowledging and restarting

Acknowledge the fault, apply the correction belonging to the fault value in r0949, and repeat the rotating measurement. If the identification is not wanted at all, it can be switched off with p1959.1 so the routine no longer runs.

Questions technicians ask

What does fault F07983 mean on a SINAMICS drive?

The rotating measurement of the motor saturation characteristic was aborted because one of its monitored conditions was not met. The fault value in r0949, read as a decimal number, names the exact reason from 1 to 10.

How do I clear F07983 with fault value 1?

The drive inertia is far greater than the motor's: switch the rotating measurement off (p1960), enter the moment of inertia in p0342, recalculate the speed controller with p0340 = 4 and repeat the measurement, or increase the measuring speed p1961.

Why does F07983 come with fault value 9 or 10?

The measurement ran at an operating point where the load torque was too high, so the results were implausible or the characteristic could not be sensibly determined. Select another speed via p1961 or reduce the load torque, keeping the torque constant while measuring.

Can the saturation characteristic measurement be turned off?

Yes. Bit 1 of p1959 (p1959.1) disables the saturation characteristic identification routine.
