What it means
While the speed controller is being commissioned, the drive performs rotating measurements; one of them determines the dynamic leakage inductance of the q-axis (Lq). F07989 is raised when this measurement fails — the drive could not reach or hold the measuring point. The drive stores a number in r0949 which, interpreted as a decimal value, names the exact reason; the eight possible values are decoded below. The manuals describe the code identically for the vector drive objects of G130, G150, S120 and S150, and the remedy depends only on the fault value. The q leakage inductance measurement can also be omitted entirely: bit 5 in p1959 switches it off.
Why it appears
- The measurement speed never reached a steady-state condition (fault value 1).
- The speed setpoint of the measurement could not be approached because minimum limiting, a suppression (skip) bandwidth or maximum limiting was active (fault values 2, 3 and 4).
- The 100 % flux setpoint was not reached, or field weakening was active and made the Lq measurement impossible (fault values 5 and 6).
- The actual speed left the permitted window — above the maximum speed p1082 or 75 % of the rated motor speed, or below 2 % of the rated motor speed (fault values 7 and 8).
What to check
- Fault value 1: check the motor parameters, then run a motor data identification with p1910; if the speed still does not settle, reduce the dynamic factor p1967 to below 25 %.
- Fault value 2: select another measurement speed in p1965, or move the minimum speed limit p1080 so the measuring point becomes reachable.
- Fault value 3: select another measurement speed in p1965, or shift the skip speeds and skip bandwidth (p1091 ... p1094, p1101) away from the measuring point.
- Fault value 4: select another measurement speed in p1965, or raise the maximum limits p1082, p1083 and p1086 so the measuring point becomes reachable.
- Fault value 5: keep the flux setpoint p1570 at 100 % and the current setpoint p1610 at 0 % for the whole Lq measurement.
- Fault value 6: reduce the regenerative load so the drive does not enter field weakening while accelerating, or lower p1965 so the q leakage inductance is recorded at lower speeds.
- Fault value 7: increase p1082 if this is technically permissible, or lower p1965 so the measurement takes place at lower speeds.
- Fault value 8: reduce the motoring load so the drive is not braked during the test, or raise p1965 so the measurement runs at higher speeds.
Reading the message value
The drive writes the reason for the abort into r0949; read the value as a decimal number:
- 1: the speed did not reach a steady-state condition.
- 2: the speed setpoint could not be approached — minimum limiting is active.
- 3: the speed setpoint could not be approached — the suppression (skip) bandwidth is active.
- 4: the speed setpoint could not be approached — maximum limiting is active.
- 5: the 100 % flux setpoint was not reached.
- 6: no Lq measurement possible because field weakening is active.
- 7: the speed actual value exceeds the maximum speed p1082 or 75 % of the rated motor speed.
- 8: the speed actual value is below 2 % of the rated motor speed.
Parameters the manual names
- r0949 — holds the fault value; read it as a decimal number to pick the matching remedy step.
- p1910 — starts a new motor data identification, the first measure for fault value 1.
- p1965 — measurement speed of the rotating measurement; move it whenever the measuring point is blocked (values 2, 3, 4) or lies too high (7) or too low (8).

- p1570 — flux setpoint; hold it at 100 % throughout the measurement (fault value 5).
- p1610 — static setpoint, called the current setpoint in the remedy; hold it at 0 % throughout the measurement (fault value 5).
- p1959 — rotating measurement configuration; bit 5 here disables the q leakage inductance measurement.
- p1960 — rotating measurement selection; set it to 1 or 2 and switch the drive on to run the measurement.
Acknowledging and restarting
The fault is cleared by an immediate acknowledgement once its cause has been corrected. To repeat the measurement, set p1960 to 1 or 2 and switch the drive on; when only bit 5 is set in p1959, the drive then carries out just the q leakage inductance measurement. If the Lq value is not needed, the measurement can simply stay disabled via p1959.5.
