F05118Precharging contactor simultaneity monitoring time exceeded

What it means

F05118 reports that, in a parallel connection, not all contactors assumed the same state within the monitored time. The drive evaluates the feedback signal of the precharging contactor (ALM, SLM or BLM diode) or of the line contactor (BLM thyristor) when it is interconnected and the simultaneity monitoring in p0255[4, 6] is activated: after every opening or closing of a contactor of the parallel connection, the drive waits the monitoring time for all contactors to agree. If the time elapses first, the drive raises this fault. The same condition can also be output as an alarm; as an alarm it triggers no reaction and needs no acknowledgement. ALM stands for Active Line Module, BLM for Basic Line Module and SLM for Smart Line Module.

Why it appears

  • The feedback signal of the precharging contactor (ALM, SLM, BLM diode) or of the line contactor (BLM thyristor) is interconnected, and the simultaneity monitoring in p0255[4, 6] is activated.
  • A contactor of the parallel connection opened or closed, and not all contactors had assumed the same state when the monitoring time elapsed.

What to check

  1. Check the setting of the monitoring time in p0255[4, 6].
  2. Check the wiring and the control of the contactor.
  3. If required, replace the contactor.

Reading the message value

  • The message value contains the fault cause (%1) and the additional information (%2). The drive stores this in r0949; interpret the fault value binary as yyyyxxxx hex, where yyyy is the supplementary information and xxxx is the fault cause.
  • Fault cause:
    • Bit 0 = 1: simultaneity error when closing the contactors.
    • Bit 1 = 1: simultaneity error when opening the contactors.
  • Supplementary information:
    • Bit 0 = 1: PDS0 contactor is closed.
    • Bit 1 = 1: PDS1 contactor is closed.
    • Bit 2 = 1: PDS2 contactor is closed.
    • Bit 3 = 1: PDS3 contactor is closed.
    • Bit 4 = 1: PDS4 contactor is closed.
    • Bit 5 = 1: PDS5 contactor is closed.
    • Bit 6 = 1: PDS6 contactor is closed.
    • Bit 7 = 1: PDS7 contactor is closed.
  • PDS stands for Power unit Data Set.

Parameters the manual names

  • p0255 (Power unit contactor monitoring time): holds the monitoring times of the power unit contactors; for this fault, check the simultaneity monitoring time in indices [4] and [6].
  • r0949 (fault value): here the drive stores the fault cause and the supplementary information belonging to F05118, to be read binary as described above.

Acknowledging and restarting

The drive switches off immediately (OFF2) when this fault occurs. Eliminate the cause first; the fault can then be acknowledged immediately or by switching the supply off and on (POWER ON). If the drive signals the condition only as an alarm, no acknowledgement is required.

Questions technicians ask

What does fault F05118 in SINAMICS mean?

The simultaneity monitoring of the precharging or line contactor in a parallel connection has tripped: after a contactor opened or closed, not all contactors had assumed the same state when the monitoring time in p0255[4, 6] elapsed.

How do I fix fault F05118?

Check the monitoring time setting in p0255[4, 6], check the wiring and the control of the contactor, and replace the contactor if required. Then acknowledge the fault to restart.

What does the F05118 fault value tell me?

In r0949, bit 0 signals a simultaneity error when closing and bit 1 when opening the contactors. The upper bits show which of the contactors PDS0 to PDS7 is closed.

Can F05118 also appear as an alarm?

Yes, the drive can output the same condition as an alarm. As an alarm it triggers no reaction and needs no acknowledgement.
