F05059Parallel circuit: VSM firmware versions differ

What it means

F05059 is raised when the drive detects that the Voltage Sensing Modules (VSM) in a parallel circuit configuration are not all running the same firmware version. In a parallel circuit every VSM must carry an identical firmware version; as soon as the drive compares the modules and finds a version number that differs, it issues this fault and records where the difference was found.

Why it appears

  • The firmware versions of the Voltage Sensing Modules (VSM) in the parallel circuit configuration do not match — at least one module carries a different version from the others.

What to check

  1. Read the fault value in r0949 as a decimal number: it names the parameter in which the first different version number was detected.
  2. Compare the firmware versions of all Voltage Sensing Modules (VSM) belonging to the parallel circuit.
  3. Make every VSM carry the same firmware version. The manual states it plainly: For parallel circuit configurations, only Voltage Sensing Modules (VSM) with identical firmware versions may be used.

Reading the message value

  • The message value is shown as Parameter: %1 — the drive enters the number of the parameter in which the first different version number was detected.
  • The same value is stored in r0949 and is to be interpreted as a decimal number, not in any other notation.

Parameters the manual names

  • r0949 — fault value: read it as a decimal number to obtain the parameter in which the first differing VSM firmware version number was detected.

Acknowledging and restarting

Once every VSM in the parallel circuit has been brought to the same firmware version, the fault is acknowledged immediately; the drive can then be restarted.

The same on every family

Every manual that describes F05059 gives it the same reaction, acknowledgement and message class.

Questions technicians ask

What does SINAMICS fault F05059 mean?

It means the firmware versions of the Voltage Sensing Modules (VSM) in a parallel circuit configuration do not match. The fault value in r0949, interpreted as a decimal number, names the parameter in which the first different version number was detected.

How do I clear fault F05059?

Bring all VSMs in the parallel circuit to the same firmware version, because only VSMs with identical firmware versions may be used in parallel circuit configurations. After that the fault is acknowledged immediately.

Can VSMs with different firmware versions be operated in parallel?

No. The manual allows only Voltage Sensing Modules (VSM) with identical firmware versions for parallel circuit configurations.

Where does F05059 show which parameter reported the version difference?

The message value appears as Parameter: %1, and the same parameter number can be read in r0949 interpreted as a decimal number.
