A33999 — Encoder 3: Unknown alarm

A33999 “Encoder 3: Unknown alarm” is raised when the Sensor Module that supplies encoder 3 reports an alarm which the firmware of the Control Unit cannot interpret. According to the manual this happens in particular when the firmware on the Sensor Module is more recent than the firmware on the Control Unit, so the component reports an alarm number the Control Unit does not yet know. The component concerned is Sensor Module Encoder 3. Depending on how the drive is configured, the same condition can also be issued as a fault (F) or as a message with no reaction (N).

• An alarm has occurred on the Sensor Module for encoder 3 that the Control Unit firmware cannot interpret.
• This can occur if the firmware on this component is more recent than the firmware on the Control Unit.

1. Read the alarm number from r2124; the manual specifies that the value is interpreted in decimal. This tells you which alarm the Sensor Module has raised.
2. Compare the firmware versions: r0148 shows the Sensor Module firmware version and r0018 the Control Unit firmware version, so you can see which component carries the older firmware.
3. Replace the firmware on the Sensor Module by an older firmware version, or upgrade the firmware on the Control Unit.

• The message value is shown as “New message: %1”.
• Alarm value (r2124, interpret decimal): Alarm number — the number of the alarm that the Sensor Module raised and the Control Unit firmware cannot interpret.

• r2124 — alarm value: read it in decimal to find the number of the alarm the Sensor Module for encoder 3 has raised.
• r0148 — Sensor Module firmware version: compare it with the Control Unit version to see whether the Sensor Module is the newer component; fitting an older Sensor Module firmware is the first remedy.
• r0018 — Control Unit firmware version: upgrading it is the second remedy, so that the Control Unit can again interpret the alarms of the Sensor Module.

While the condition stands as alarm A33999, the drive takes no automatic response, the operating state is not changed and no acknowledgment is required. If the drive is configured to issue the same condition as a fault instead, the fault is acknowledged immediately (POWER ON is the alternative acknowledgment setting). No further reset is described; removing the firmware mismatch between Sensor Module and Control Unit is what clears the message.
