A33811Encoder 3: Encoder serial number changed

What it means

A33811 — "Encoder 3: Encoder serial number changed" — signals that the serial number of encoder 3 no longer matches the serial number saved in the corresponding encoder data set. The drive checks this only for encoders that actually deliver a serial number, for example EnDat encoders; an encoder without a serial number cannot trigger the message. With closed-loop position control, the serial number is accepted when the adjustment is started (p2507 = 2). Once the encoder has been adjusted (p2507 = 3), the serial number is checked for changes and, if it has changed, the adjustment is reset (p2507 = 1). Depending on the drive configuration, the same condition can also be raised as a fault or as a message with no reaction.

Why it appears

  • The encoder was replaced, so the serial number now delivered by the encoder differs from the number stored in the encoder data set.

What to check

  1. Mechanically adjust the encoder.
  2. Accept the new serial number: set p0440 = 1 to copy the encoder serial number into the encoder data set.
  3. Alternatively, hide serial number monitoring: set p0441 = FF and p0442 = 0, p0443 = 0, p0444 = 0, p0445 = 0 for the corresponding encoder data set.

Parameters the manual names

  • p0440 (Copy encoder serial number) — set to 1 to accept the new serial number of encoder 3 after the mechanical adjustment.
  • p0441 (Encoder commissioning serial number part 1) — set to FF for the corresponding encoder data set to hide serial number monitoring.
  • p0442, p0443, p0444, p0445 (encoder commissioning serial number parts 2 to 5) — set each of them to 0, together with p0441 = FF, when serial number monitoring is hidden.
  • p2507 (LR absolute encoder adjustment status) — the adjustment status: at 2 the serial number is accepted when the adjustment starts, at 3 it is checked for changes once the encoder is adjusted, at 1 the adjustment has been reset after a serial number change.

Acknowledging and restarting

The alarm requires no acknowledgement and no OFF1, OFF2 or OFF3 is triggered automatically. Only if the drive is configured to raise the same condition as a fault does it have to be acknowledged immediately; once this is done, the drive can be restarted. The message condition is gone when the encoder has been mechanically adjusted and the new serial number accepted with p0440 = 1 — or when serial number monitoring has been hidden.

Questions technicians ask

What does SINAMICS A33811 mean?

The serial number of encoder 3 no longer matches the number saved in the encoder data set. The manual lists a replaced encoder as the cause, and the check only exists for encoders that deliver a serial number, for example EnDat encoders.

How do I clear A33811 after replacing the encoder?

Mechanically adjust the encoder and then accept the new serial number with p0440 = 1. Alternatively, hide serial number monitoring by setting p0441 = FF and p0442 = 0, p0443 = 0, p0444 = 0, p0445 = 0 in the corresponding encoder data set.

Does A33811 stop the drive?

No automatic OFF1, OFF2 or OFF3 is triggered for this condition. As an alarm it needs no acknowledgement; only when the drive raises it as a fault must it be acknowledged immediately.

What is p2507 used for with A33811?

It is the LR absolute encoder adjustment status: at p2507 = 2 the serial number is accepted when the adjustment starts, at p2507 = 3 it is checked for changes, and at p2507 = 1 the adjustment has been reset after a change.
