A07478EPOS: Target position > software limit switch plus

What it means

A07478 comes from the EPOS basic positioning function. It is raised when, during an actual traversing operation, the target position of the job being executed is greater than the software limit switch plus (p2581). The alarm therefore points at the job's target rather than at the limit having been reached: the axis is commanded to a position beyond its permitted plus-side limit. The manuals for S120/S150 and for G130/G150 describe the alarm identically. Depending on how the drive is configured, the same condition can also be issued as a fault (F) instead of an alarm.

Why it appears

  • During an actual traversing operation, the target position of the traversing job being executed is greater than the software limit switch plus.

What to check

  1. Correct the target position of the traversing job so that it no longer lies beyond the software limit switch plus.
  2. If the target position is correct for the application, change the software limit switch plus instead. For this, the remedy names p2579 (CI: signal source of the software limit switch plus) and p2581 (CO: the software limit switch plus itself).

Parameters the manual names

  • p2579 (CI, EPOS software limit switch plus signal source): the source from which the plus limit is fed — one of the two parameters the remedy names for changing the software limit switch plus.
  • p2581 (CO, EPOS software limit switch plus): the plus limit itself, the position the target position is compared against — the second parameter named for changing the limit.

Acknowledging and restarting

As an alarm, A07478 needs no acknowledgement: it goes away once the target position no longer lies beyond the software limit switch plus — that is, after you correct the target position or move the limit (p2579, p2581). If the drive is configured to report the same condition as a fault instead, the fault reaction is OFF1 (OFF2 and OFF3 are the alternatives) and the fault must be acknowledged immediately before the drive can traverse again.

The same on every family

Every manual that describes A07478 gives it the same reaction, acknowledgement and message class.

Questions technicians ask

What does SINAMICS alarm A07478 mean?

It is an EPOS alarm: during an actual traversing operation, the target position of the current job is greater than the software limit switch plus, so the axis is commanded beyond its permitted plus-side limit.

How do I fix A07478?

Correct the target position of the traversing job, or — if the target is right for the application — change the software limit switch plus via p2579 (signal source) and p2581 (the limit itself). As an alarm it clears once the condition is gone.

Does A07478 have to be acknowledged?

Not as an alarm; it disappears by itself once the target position lies within the limit again. If the same condition is issued as a fault, the drive executes OFF1 (OFF2/OFF3 as alternatives) and the fault must be acknowledged immediately.
